Winter Holidays are Here at WDW - 2010

My wife Vickie and I visited Walt Disney World a few days after Thanksgiving to check out Disney's progress with holiday decorations. We like Disney popcorn, so we bought a small box. You probably know that holiday food and drink containers often contain Hidden and Decorative Mickey images. We weren't disappointed! Some decent Hidden Mickeys are in snowflakes on this Epcot holiday popcorn box.

A nice touch to the miniature train exhibit in Epcot's Germany Pavilion is Santa Claus with his sleigh and reindeer on this house.
Notice the "snowflakes" suspended around and below Santa.

The landscapers in Germany try to maintain the Hidden Mickey bush in the train exhibit. These bush and plant Mickey images are difficult to preserve over time.

Vickie and I stopped by several Storytellers in World Showcase. One was speaking about the spirit of Kwanzaa at the American Adventure Pavilion.

At the France Pavilion, Pere Noel entertains with a child's (Babette's) story of Christmas.

When I'm made aware of new Hidden Mickeys, I often wait a while to see if they persist for all of us to find. Karen Williams and her child, and Tim Devine, informed me of a Hidden Mickey inside Guest Relations near Spaceship Earth at Epcot. Mickey ears sit on a high window ledge beside the entrance. (Thanks to Tim Devine for the photo).

Alas, a few days after Thanksgiving, I checked the area and the Mickey ears are gone! Unfortunately, some Hidden Mickeys don't last!

WDW in December with AllEarsĀ®

I was honored to enjoy WDW early this December with friends from the AllEars® Team. Along the way, I met Max, a bright young Hidden Mickey spotter, in the lobby of the Beach Club Resort. Max had been educating his parents about Hidden Mickeys, and he pointed out a few Hidden Mickeys to me on the holiday gingerbread carousel in the lobby. This one is on the floor of the carousel:

This classic Hidden Mickey is on the side of the carousel:

Good spotting, Max!

I was able to snap a photo of Mike Scopa and Michelle Scribner-MacLean of the AllEars® Team in front of this Beach Club lobby holiday gingerbread carousel.

One slightly chilly morning (for Florida, anyway), a group of AllEars® fans explored the Discovery Island Trails near the Tree of Life at Disney's Animal Kingdom. These trails provide a close-up perspective of the awesome Tree of Life that many guests overlook. In this photo, Deb Wills points to a detailed camel's face within reach of Tree of Life admirers.

It's great fun for me to reconnect with old friends in early December at AllEars® meets. I look forward to these events every year, and I usually take the opportunity to Christmas shop during a few open hours. In recent years, weekends at WDW in December can be crowded with "locals" (like me). So this year, I shopped on a Monday at Downtown Disney, and I was able to avoid long lines and long waits. I actually enjoyed myself, felt no stress and finished all my shopping in just 3 or so hours! I'll remember this for next year!

Christmastime at the Wilderness Lodge

My wife Vickie and I joined Marc Lorenzo and other Walt Disney World Moms Panel members at the Wilderness Lodge Resort to enjoy the Christmas decorations. Vickie found a Hidden Mickey (and Minnie) ornament on the huge Christmas tree in the main lobby.

This small ornament is on the side of the tree that faces the registration area.

Cast members point out three red ornament bulbs that resemble a classic (three-circle) Mickey. It's hanging on the side of the tree that faces the rear of the lobby.

I took the opportunity to check on a few Hidden Mickeys near the Wilderness Lodge lobby. An awesome classic Mickey is still in place in the rear room of the Whispering Canyon Cafe. It's the third decorative cutout from the left corner in the lower grillwork of the fireplace. You have to bend low to see it!

The tiny classic Mickey traced in cement hasn't been worn away in the front car entrance drive-through. It's in the black stripe nearest the center steps from the parking lot.

Several classic Mickeys are etched in the large entrance poles supporting the roof over the car entrance area. This Mickey image is on the left after you walk up the center steps from the parking lot. It's partially covered by the upper black metal band; you can see the head and the lower part of each ear of the three-circle Mickey.

Although seasonal Hidden Mickeys come and go, some Mickey images last a long time (thank goodness!)
