2013 Vacation Review

Disney Pic of the Week – Year in Review

As usual, I got my tuchas out of the house in search of new adventure. Beyond Walt Disney World (I’ll go back to the topic), I journeyed with friends Karen and Susan to Vermont, Connecticut, and Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts.

At Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, CT I touched a shark, an alligator, Cownose and Atlantic Rays, and a tiny crab.

I also explored new places in Central Massachusetts with one of best friends, Figgy, and her family. I took a solo road trip with a stop in New York to see my brother and sister-in-law and then went on to New Jersey where I had lunch with Erin, Queen of AllEars.Net menus. Then my fun turned into a nightmare in Atlantic City, where I’ll never go back. My first time in New Orleans proved to be awesome with my friend/hostess/tour guide, Terri. We even did a little sightseeing in Alabama and casino drop-ins in Mississippi.

I fed zebras and yououou didn’t!! This place was awesome! Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, LA.

When I’m bored I get in the car and drive. I tend to wind up in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and various parts of Massachusetts. It’s good to get out of the house.

The most exciting trip of the year as you might recall was to Walt Disney World with my friend Yoli. It was her first time not only at The Most Magical Place on Earth but in Orlando. Our 10 night extravaganza included a day at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. We toured Celebration and checked out a handful of Disney Resorts. Ten years in the making, and we finally pulled it off. Next time, we need to bring a few pals along.

If you missed me going on and on and on about it all, my trip reports are called Newbie and the Geek. Follow the link to the final post where you’ll see links to each and every pre and post-trip blog entry.

I made one other flight to Orlando this year to attempt my second all nighter. In May, Disney held another 24 hour event, this time to launch the new movie, Monsters University. I arrived at Magic Kingdom in time to start things off and then proceeded to get sick. What a disaster. Want to relive the disappointment? Start here and then finish here

I wonder if King Triton has a much younger brother.

My itinerary for 2014 includes Florida (not Orlando), Virginia, Washington, D.C., California (Disneyland +), and Hawai’i. Alooooha!

  1. Lisa:
    Happy New Year!!

So it is Hawaii for me, too. Not sure whether I want to stay at Aulani or just visit and stay in Honolulu at one of the mega hotels. A stop-over in California to meet with my Disney-loving relatives may also be an option…although Florida is looking pretty good right now with our temps below zero…brrrr. Good luck with your travel plans!

Lisa responds: I don’t know where we’re going in Hawai’i yet but I’ll be on the lookout for surfers. Aloooooooha!

  2. Happy New Year! I sure do get a kick out of your blogs. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. Can’t wait to hear about your 2014 adventures.

Lisa responds: Thanks, Gina. It’s nice to know people like my writing. Have a great year.

  3. I’m from New Jersey. What happened in Atlantic City?

Lisa responds: A huge fiasco with Trump Taj Mahal. Lack of lighting on the boardwalk. And a few other not-so-great moments, all in under 24 hours.

  4. Lisa, 2014 looks like a good amount of trip time, which is always good. It always seems like you’re having a laugh, even when you’re sick – well at least in the blog entries. Keep the great reports coming!

We’ve “only” got a Disneyland trip in April and a cruise in October on the docket. Sometimes you just have to suffer.

Lisa responds: Such is the life of a Disney fan. We are a tough breed.
