Bring Back Figment and Dreamfinder

Light Meter by Lisa K. Berton

Dear Walt Disney World Decision Makers.

Figment is a lonely purple dragon who used to have a friend named Dreamfinder. I’m sure you remember Dreamfinder well. Together, they entertained us with a Journey Into Imagination and really got us all thinking.

Then Kodak came along and sponsored the attraction, the reason why Figment wears a zippered jacket in yellow and red. Changes were made and suddenly, Dreamfinder was forgotten. Not only did Dreamfinder lose his gig but you fired Figment, too. Somehow Figment came back and wound up in a lab with a man who he enjoys licking.

Sadly, Figment and Dr. Nigel Channing don’t have the same je ne sais quoi as Figment and Dreamfinder. All of the lab tests have been run and the results show that beyond a shadow of a doubt, the current attraction needs to go back to it’s original state.

Kodak can’t sponsor anything anymore, a real shame, but that’s another story for another time.

If dreams really do come true at Walt Disney World, you’ll listen to me.

Thanks. Have a magical day.

  1. When they first made the change to the ride I was EXTREMELY upset. My Figment doll helped me through many nightmare filled nights. I loved everything about the ride from the day it opened. I was stopped by a cast member to do a survey. I told them exactly how I felt. I was later called by Disney to go over what I told them. They seemed to want to listen and make changes. I am still not at all happy with the new ride. It talks more about senses then it does Imagination. They need to bring the old one back. They need DREAMFINDER!!

  2. Bring back the Dreamfinder, the ride has no imagination. I remember 15 yrs ago the Dream Finder, now that I’m grown and have a son, I would like him to experience The Dreamfinder, not the goofy scientist.

  3. I just got back from Disney World, and the new Figment ride with Dr. Channing is terrible. I absolutely LOVE Figment and was devastated when they got rid of him and Dreamfinder. I was so excited when I found out Figment was back. However, like the article says, there is not the same connection between Figment and Dr. Nigel Channing. The ride NEVER had a line, and kids see the Figment character as boring. No one makes the “Figment of imagination” connection as the ride does not explain it!! Seriously, do everyone a favor Disney World and bring back the original ride!! It would make more sense all around!! I cannot even count how many times I had to explain to people who the “man with the beard” was next to Figment.

  4. Miss the old Figment ride so much. Almost cried when I seen the replacement. Don’t know what Disney was thinking when they changed things.

  5. Agreed; the pavilion needs a complete re-do. Why is it that Disney seems to have the most trouble with ideas that should be the centerpieces of the entire concept of Epcot/Disney–like Imagination, for pete’s sake?? Or Horizons/vision of the future?? Maybe you can’t boil down something so huge into one attraction?

  6. I’m sad that a whole generation of children and adults have not gotten to know Figment and Dreamfinder, like we did with the original Imagination ride. That was a magical place! The white room! Little Figment holding back all the scary things trying to escape! The Dreamfinder ‘blimp’ where he created Figment!

The new ride is Journey into the lack of Imagination – c’mon… furniture on the ceiling? Ho hum. That skunk smell? Offensive.

I’d give a lot to go back in time and ride the original ride again.

  7. I remember Figment. The very first time I went to Disney (at the age of 14) he and his buddy (I called him the creator of imagination – didn’t know his name then) embarrassed me in front of ALL the other people Epcot. He centered me out and introduced me to EVERYONE. A memory I will NEVER forget (even though I was embarrassed and shy at the time)

  8. I totally agree. Bring back Dreamfinder and Figment. I still have small memories of them when i was younger. I think they should bring them back permanently and not just for a week. I would also say yes to the original ride.

I wonder if they get a lot of letters (not a petition) they would bring em back?

Lisa responds: It doesn’t hurt to try. Michael Jackson fans wrote in for years to bring back Captain EO which returned 8 months after Michael’s unfortunate passing. Fans of the Adventurer’s Club have been asking for it to return in some form or another since it closed its doors.

  9. I totally agree. I so dislike the current ride. I loved the original and wish I could share it with my 5 yr old son. He doesn’t get why I love Figment so much. I’ve told several Epcot cast members I wish they would revert to the original.

  10. I agree!!! The original version of Journey Into Imagination was infinitely better than the current version! Maybe Disney will “retro” the attraction for the 35th anniversary of Epcot. They seem to like to do renovations just before major anniversaries. I would love to see Dreamfinder and Figment doing photos and autographs again, too!!!

  11. I agree that they should bring back the original Imagination ride. When I first rode the updated one, I hated it. It since has grown on me, but nothing will be as good as the dreamfinder. I remember as a little girl going on the ride and then it broke down. We had to walk through the rest of the ride. It was the best ride in Epcot. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!

  12. Is this a petition? Sign me up!

Lisa responds: It’s not a petition but rather a letter of encouragement to Epcot’s decision makers.

  13. Hi Lisa,
I totally echo your sentiments here. The old Imagination pavillion used to give a sense of fun and silliness, and it’s for that reason that two non-movie Disney characters became so popular.

The latest incarnation of Imagination may have better technology, but is soulless in comparison. Bring back Dreamfinder and Figment!

  14. I agree, I miss Figment and the Dreamfinder. I have a picture with them when I first visited when I was 8 (in the 80’s).

  15. One of my fondest memories is my daughter and I coming upon Dreamfinder and Figment alone in the courtyard near Imagination. Since there was no one else around they spent about 10 minutes making her laugh with tickles, jokes, peek a boo, and hugs. She was 6 at the time and loved it.

  16. Right on sister!! Where can I sing the petition??
It has been a sad shell of an attraction ever since Kodak came. We loved to sing the Imagaination song thru the ride. and visit the Image Works after the ride. We could not believe what happened to it after the renovations and really stopped going.

Now there’s no reason not to bring it back. We would have to get FastPasses for that ride if they did. Bring back the original ride. Maybe if we make up t-shirts and all wear them to Epcot? Think that will work?

Lisa responds: You could write a letter to Guest Services or the Walt Disney Company.

  17. I love this idea!!!! And I agree 100% Figment gets no love and most people don’t even know who he is, which is such a shame!

  18. I fondly remember this first Journey Into Imagination and was very disappointed when they changed it without Figment in the ride. Was happy when they brought Figment back but have to agree that the attraction with Figment and the Dreamfinder was the best.

  19. Lisa, I agree 100% It would be great if that returned!! I wonder if there’s a suggestion box somewhere?! Hmmm…..
