Disney Pic of the Week: Canada

Photographic Innoventions by Scott Thomas

The Canada pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase is home to the O’Canada CircleVision 360 Theater. The movie got a make over in 2007 and is hosted by Canadian actor Martin Short. He does liven up the movie a lot and most of the imagery from the original movie is still used including a scene were the Royal Canadian Mounted Police encircle the audience during a filmed performance.

A quick trivia question for you. Do you know what the National Sport of Canada is?

  1. let me see if I have this right….. I’m french Canadian and most of us would say that the national sport is hockey but I believe it’s actually curling ! what say you?

Scott replies: Curling is very popular in Canada but is not considered as one of the TWO national sports which are lacrosse and ice hockey. Thanks, Andreé!

  2. Hi Scott,

I’m going to guess that the national sport of Canada is Lacrosse. I would have guessed Hockey, but “Lacrosse” was one of the tags at the end of your article! LOL

    Dan

Scott replies: Good for you for being observant, Dan. However, I have been corrected in that BOTH lacrosse and ice hockey are considered national sports for Canada now.

  3. I believe both hockey and lacrosse are official national sports of Canada…

Scott replies: Thank you, Kelli. It seems I am behind on my Canadian history as I did not know both sports were considered this way.

  4. I believe that honor is shared by lacrosse & hockey.
Back in the 90’s there was a bill that made hockey the official sport of Canada. This upset many people that believed that lacrosse was the more traditional sport. It was decided that hockey is the winter sport & lacrosse is the summer sport.

Scott replies: Well, so much for my trivia question. I did not know Canada had split them up. I thought Lacrosse was THE national sport. Thanks for clarifying this for me, Donna.
