The start of the long Labor Day holiday weekend in the United States starts tomorrow and I will be doing something for the very first time: Driving to Walt Disney World. My daughter (the one pretending to drive in the photo above when she was only 15) is hoping to become a full-time Disney Cast Member. She’s already a seasonal Cast Member but is moving to Orlando to give her a better chance at full-time employment. In essence, this is a re-positioning trip for my daughter, her car and whatever she else she can fit into the trunk and backseat. I’ll be flying back but not after taking in a park or two or three.

You can follow this adventure at my Disney twitter account, @Scottwdw. If you are on Twitter, please, consider following me, too. I’ll be tweeting out photos and messages which will no doubt be amusing to those of you who have often driven long distances to visit Walt Disney World. So, 19 hours in a car is not a big deal, right?

  1. She’ll have so much fun! My cousins and I decided in ’99 to drive down from Colorado and get jobs at WDW, and had a blast for a few years.

  2. Scott,

Good luck to your daughter!!! It’s always been a dream of mine to work at WDW but that may have to wait until retirement at this point, which is more than 30 yrs away. LOL! My cousin is, right now, a seasonal Disney cast member in DHS and absolutely loves it. It really makes everyday magical! Have a great trip!

Scott replies: Thanks, Jen! She is not one to sit around so she’d rather be working there than doing nothing at home.

  3. 19 hours is no big deal. When we drive down it’s a 22.5 hour trip and we stop to eat and get gas in the car and that’s it. We drive straight through from Northern Indiana.

Scott replies: I’ll keep that in mind, Stacey. We are stopping for one night so that should help us.
