Picture This!

I always read blogs from the three of you, and enjoy seeing your pictures. I especially enjoy that you pick a topic, such as "motion" or "Norway" and share your three different takes on it. Hopefully, it helps me to get better photos myself.

I enjoy "picture this" very much!! I was wondering if when you all post pix, and you put the info on the bottom of the picture, if you could add whether or not a flash was used. I wonder alot if there was a flash or not, such as in this picture of the viking? I am guessing not, but not sure.

I am more familar with film at this point, but will go digital soon, so I often wonder how much a flash is necessary with digital. For me, with film, I always use flash outdoors. But, I know with digital it can be too much.

Barrie's reply: Thanks for writing Becky. I can tell you that I almost never use a flash. I should, but I just haven't gotten comfortable with it yet. I always hate how harsh it makes my pictures look. I know it doesn't have to be that way so that's on my list of things I need to learn and get better at. But you can be pretty sure that nothing I post on here has had a flash used on it.

Scott replies: Hi, Becky! You are going to love using a digital SLR. Using flash with one is no different than with a flim SLR. I have a few articles on the blog about uisng flash/speedlights. Use the search field and type in "flash". Also, if I use flash, its indicated either under the photo or in the text.
