It’s Greek to Me – Kouzzina by Cat Cora

Let me preface this blog by saying that when it comes to Walt Disney World restaurant reviews no one does it better than my AllEars colleague Jack Spence. Jack has no equal and I NEVER consume food from a newly opened Walt Disney World restaurant until I have first consumed the words from Jack’s review on said restaurant.

However, a few weeks back I was privileged to attend a media event at Walt Disney World and among the various things I got to do was to enjoy lunch at Kouzzina by Cat Cora.

I want to point out that I was a guest of Walt Disney World for this event and my meal was paid for by WDW. This however, did not influence my opinions on my experience.

Kouzzina is located where Spoodles use to reside. The grand opening was September 17, 2009. The kitchen is open viewing so patrons can see their meals being prepared.

One of the reasons I had hesitated to go to Kouzzina was that I really had no idea as to what to order.

On this particularly special day however, as a guest of Cat Cora, we were treated to an assortment of treats and I enjoyed every one and want to share them with you.

First we started out with what is known as “Kouzzina Spreads“ which consisted of Harissa Yogurt, Kalamata Fig, and Chickpea Hummus with Grilled Pita. Yes it was very appetizing.

Then Cat treated us to Spiro’s Greek Salad, named after her father. It consisted of vine-ripened Tomatoes, Arugula, Cucumbers, Red Onions, /Kalamata Olives, and Feta. This was served with House Bread and Butter made with Sea Salt.

Then came the entrees.

First there was the Mini Pastitsio which is a Greek-style Lasagna with Bucatinin Pasta, Cinnamon-stewed Meat Sauce, and Bechamel.

Next came the Cinnamon Stewed Chicken with Tomatoes, Herbed Orzo, and Mazithra Cheese.

Finally there was a very tasty and spicy Oak-grilled Lamb Slider made with Olives and Feta.

This was all complimented by a side of Brussels Sprouts.

Dessert was a Trio Sampler of Baklava, Loukoumades and Kourabiethes. These were pastries that were out of this world.

The meal was accompanied by a Chardonnay Wine known as Russian River and a Pinot Noir known as Sonoma Coast.

I enjoyed my meal and when I return I will be looking to once again taste what I made my palate smile this day.

However I must admit that I will be also fighting the urge to try the Oat-grilled pork, Greek Spinach Pie (Spanakopita), Lamb, the fresh seasonal seafood, and the calamari.

I love spicy, ethnic food and this meal was certainly Greek to me.

  1. I had such a difficult time on my first visit to this restaurant — I wanted to try everything on the menu! Thanks for the run-down of what you had the chance to sample; what an incredible experience to be dining with the Chef herself.

  2. Great blog, Mike! I’ve been wanting to try Kouzzina for awhile. I’ll be there in June, and it certainly seems like time!
