My Top Places To Eat In The Magic Kingdom

I believe that everyone had fun coming up with their Top Five Attractions in Walt Disney World. As many of you commented, it was not an easy task to come up with that list.

Well, put your thinking caps back on (and make sure your brain is connected to your stomach) because now it’s time to come up with your top places to eat in each of the four Walt Disney World Parks; both full service restaurants and counter service locations. However, we’re going to do one park at a time.

We’re going to begin with the Magic Kingdom and I’m going to make this a bit easier on you and cut the list to your top three in each category rather than top five.

So, here’s my list:

Magic Kingdom

mke%201.JPG

Full Service Restaurants:

1) Liberty Tree Tavern

2) Tony’s Town Square

3) Plaza Restaurant

Counter Service Locations:

1) Casey’s Corner

2) Pecos Bill

3) Cosmic Ray’s

My comments: The Liberty Tree Inn is by far my favorite full service restaurant in the MK. I really love the food and atmosphere there. Tony’s is a fun place to eat and I try to get a seat looking out onto Main Street. What a great place to enjoy a relaxing meal! Another thing I like a lot are the hot dogs they serve at WDW. That’s why Casey’s Corner is at the top of my list of Counter Service locations.

OK, now that I have told you my top three, what’s yours? I’d love to know. Also, you can add whatever comments you want to help us appreciate your choices.

And you could win an AllEars® baseball cap. I will take all the names of those who post a comment (see below) with your list, I will put them in a hat and randomly draw the name of the lucky winner. The only rules are that you must reside in the US, be 18 years old or older and you must provide your email address so I can contact you should you win.

All comments must be posted no later than Sunday, June, 6th, 2010 in order to be eligible to win the AllEars® baseball cap. Note, you can still post comments after that date, you just won’t be eligible to win a prize. The winner of the AllEars® baseball cap will be announced the following Sunday.

To make things a bit easier for you can just copy and paste the following into the Post A Comment section below and add your information:

Having a great time reading this — So many replies! Not sure if it is love of food or prizes, but fun to see all the reponses! We tend to have our better meals at Epcot or the resorts — we rarely do table service at Magic Kingdom.

  11. Hey Mike! As soon as I saw you share this on your Facebook I wanted to run over here but just now had the chance. Here’s my top:

    Full Service Restaurants:

    2)
    3)

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Columbia Harbor House
    2) Cosmic Ray’s

Your comments: Unfortunately the only full service restaurant we’ve eaten at in the MK is the Plaza Restaurant. Crystal Palace, Cinderella’s Royal Table and Liberty Tree Tavern are all on our list to try! In our opinion, the MK has many delicious counter service locations which is probably why we’ve only done the one full service meal!

DizneyMike replies: Kristen, I hope all is going well with you. Hope to bump into you again one of these days…Mike

Your comments: My family and I also love the ice cream shop and any ice cream stands. Many of our lunches are spent over ice cream instead of a full meal! We prefer to eat a big breakfast and dinner.

The Plaza is the only place we ever go for a sit down meal. The atmosphere is perfect. They also have a great reuben, which is not a common menu item. Uncommon menu items is also the reason we love Columbia Harbour House so much. The clam chowder is amazing – even in 100 degree weather!!

We had a wonderful experience at Tony’s, meeting Mary Poppins as she was going out to Main Street for a meet-n-greet and then went immdediately to the train station steps for excellent seats (and shade!) for the parade.

  24. Full Service:

    3. Cinderella’s Royal Table

    Counter Service:
    1. Cosmic Rays

    3. Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies

    Comments:
Liberty Tree is definitely the best place for a nice sit-down meal. Great traditional fare of Turkey, beef, mashed potatoes, apple crisp a-la mode. We are going to eat there this coming Thanksgiving!
Since we seem to spend a lot of time in Tomorrowland, we typically eat lunch at Cosmic Rays. We like to sit outside on the covered patio overlooking Cinderella Castle. Although Auntie Gravity’s isn’t a b/l/d place, they have great smoothies and felt it should get a plug.

    Your comments:

My husband and I have only eaten at Libery Tree Tavern. I desperately want to eat at Cinderella’s Royal Table. I have begged my husband to please make reservations for our trip in January.
I had a hard time deciding between Pecos Bill’s and the Main Street Bakery. I have the best memory of MSB! After my husband proposed at the MK during Wishes (the most romantic, best moment of my life!) we were starving so we went to MSB and when they found out what had just happened they gave us free deserts!

We have only been to Tony’s once about 15 years ago, but I remember it being pretty good, otherwise we usually do counter service at Magic Kingdom. There’s never any time for anything else and there are so many good resort restaurants just a monorail or boatride away!
But we really like Columbia Harbour house, the food is good and it is great for people watching when we don’t have the kids with us.

    3)Cosmic Ray’s

    Your comments:

Right now these are my favorites because my 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter love them. I love seeing their faces when the princesses come around at the Castle, watching my son march around at Crystal Palce and when they both “suck” up the spaghetti at Tony’s…If I didn’t have kids, I think I would have to put Liberty Tavern up there as well…

  34. Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Liberty Tree Tavern
    2) Liberty Tree
    3) Liberty…

There’s just no other sit-down for me at MK!

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Pecos Bill
    2) Cosmic Ray’s
    3) Main Street Bakery

  35. One other thing – to piggyback off another post about how to extend this – to fave resorts, fave resort food, etc., another idea is favorite non-theme park things or places (ie., DD, fave pool at a resort, etc.,) or fave Disney movie or character or fave ‘magic moments’ – I obviously could go on, but work calls… 🙂

DizneyMike replies: Tracy, do you really have to get back to work? -:) Love your ideas. Thanks to you (and your boss) for passing them on….Mike

  36. Full Service:

    3.

    Counter Service:

    1. Pecos Bill
    2. Cosmic Ray’s
    3. Pinocchio’s Village Haus (spelled wrong??)

We usually only eat counter service in the MK as we save our dough for table service meals at Epcot (we haven’t done the dining plan). We enjoyed the Pooh character meal (lunch) at Crystal Palace. Pretty good buffet and it was a good cool place on a very hot day in June when we were there. I love the topping bar at Pecos Bill’s even more than the food itself, I think. Cosmic Ray’s is a nostalgic favorite for me as I remember eating there as a young child (I’m 40 now!) and that it isn’t much different now as it was in the late 70’s.

Love these posts!! How fun to take some time away from work (shh!!) to put some thought into this 🙂 Keep it up. It keeps people like me – those who only get to the parks every few years – in touch with the magic!

    3)Crystal Palace

    Counter Service Locations:

    2) Casey’s Corner
    3) Columbia Harbour House

Your comments: Liberty Tree is a must on all our vacations. You can’t beat the warm cobbler topped with ice cream.
Cosmic Ray’s is great and allows a family to share because of their large portions.
To be honest, I love all the eating places in Magic Kingdom, and who couldn’t, your in the Magic Kingdom!!!!

  38. Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Liberty Tree Tavern
    2) The Plaza

    Your comments:
I am from New England so Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner is my fav! Traditional NE feast, all you can eat, yummy!
I love the Steak & Cheese sub from the Plaza.
Eating in the castle alone is worth every penny, and meeting the princesses!
I love Peso Bills burgers and the topping bar!! Sauteed mushrooms and onions, and cheese sauce, yummo!

  39. Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Crystal Palace
    2) The old version (no characters at certain times) of Cinderella’s Royal Table
    3) Liberty Tree

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Aloha Isle
    2) Pinocchio’s
    3) Pecos Bill

Your comments: Crystal Palace has great atmosphere, food, and service. Cinderella’s used to have the best prime rib in WDW, I have not been there since the change so I am unsure if it is still there. Liberty Tree has great salad and pork.

Nothing can beat a Dole whip, so this places Aloha at 1. I love being able to see over It’s a Small World and the atmosphere at Pinocchio’s is great. Pecos Bill is great with the cheese and mushrooms at the condiment bar.

  40. Full Service Restaurants:

    3)

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Main Street Ice Cream Parlor (Does that count?)
    2) Main Street Bakery (See a theme here?)
    3)

    Your comments:
To be truthful, other than the Plaza which we truly enjoy (someone used the phrase “bang for the buck” with respect to another restaurant, and I reiterate that sentiment here about the Plaza) and the Crystal Palace (solely for the Pooh character experience, not really the food), MK is not our favorite place to dine. Sorry to say, we typically take the monorail and dine elsewhere. That said, if I have a day in the MK without a Mint Chocolate Chip from the Ice Cream Parlor or a sweet treat from the bakery, well…it’s just not a Disney day! 🙂

    Your comments:
Filling out this list made me realize how few restaurants in the MK that I’ve been to! We do most of our dining at other locations. Liberty Tree Tavern would have taken my top spot, because it was fantastic when we had a Halloween dinner with the characters dressed in costume. Sadly, they no longer have characters at the meals. We love the toppings bar at Pecos Bill’s, but I want to try Casey’s on our upcoming trip.

    Your comments:
MK is not our favorite place to eat, but it’s only because we enjoy the offerings at other parks more; it’s not because MK doesn’t have anything to offer. During the course of a vacation, we do try to get at least one meal at the Liberty Tree Tavern. We have gone for both lunch and the character dinner (when it was offered), and we enjoyed lunch so much more. It was enjoyable, however, to see Chip and Dale start a food fight with Minnie Mouse – I think that was that particular cast member’s last day and he decided to go out with a bang…

    Counter Service Locations:

We always plan first thing in the morning breakfast at Crystal Palace – it gets everyone in the mood to be thoroughly Disneyfied for the entire trip, in addition to atmosphere the food is always flat out great – fresh and yummy. We also always plan at least one meal at the Main Street Bakery – fabulous sandwiches and desserts to die for.

    3) Columbia Harbor House

Your comments:Crystal Palcae always offers good food and a more relaxed atmosphere than many character dining expereinces. In some we’ve expereinced lately, it become very “factory” like with character moving in for a photo and moving out with no personal acknowledgement or interaction. Crystal Palce always offers a unique character interaction and solid service.

    3) Liberty Tree

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Mian Street Bakery
    2) Columbia Harbor House
    3) Peco Bill’s

    Your comments:
We always eat a late lunch – early dinner at the Crystal Palace every trip. It seems that we eat more and more often at the Plaza – we seem to usually be able to just walk up and get in a few times every trip – we find it much better than counter service in MK.

There is nothing better than something from the Main Street Bakery before staking out a spot to watch Tink fly on the steps by The Plaza.

  53. Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Crystal Palace (breakfast)
    2) Liberty Tree (although it has been a long time since I ate there)
    3) Cinderella’s Royal Table

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Pinocchio Village Haus (waving to IASW boats or on the upstairs deck)
    2) Main Street Bakery (breakfast meal deals!)
    3) Cosmic Ray’s

Your comments: A breakfast meal from the Bakery – egg and cheese croissant with a huge cinnamon roll – plus a table by the water equals a happy family of three, but we can’t resist eating and waving to the Small World boats.

  54. Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Plaza Restaurant
    2) Cinderella’s Royal Table
    3) …(Haven’t eaten at any of the others)

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Cosmic Ray’s
    2) Mainstreet Bakery/Ice Cream Parlor
    3) Pecos Bill

    Your comments:

I tend to stick to counter service and general snacking while in the MK. Although nothing can beat that veggie sandwich at Plaza. Mmmm…this poor grad student can’t wait to eat it again!

  55. Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Tony’s
    2) Cinderalla’s Royal Table (especially before it was Cinderalla’s)
    3) Crystal Palace

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Cosmic Rays
    2) Pecos Bills
    3) Columbia Harbour House

Your comments: My husband’s favorite is the Main Street Ice Cream Coke Float

  56. _________________________

    Full Service Restaurants:

1)The Crystal Palace – BEFORE IT WAS CONVERTED TO A CHARACTER BUFFET – when it was still a cafeteria

2)Cinderella’s Royal Table – ONLY when you could still order from a menu – way long ago

    3) NONE

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) NONE – GO back to any WDW hotel with a food court – you’ll eat better!
    2) NONE
    3) Cosmic Rays

Your comments: We have such fond memories of the Crystal Palace when it was still a cafeteria… you went through the line and chose and paid for only the things you wanted…The child’s spaghetti and meatballs was amazing and they had a macaroni and cheese that still makes me smile. THose memories are priceless, but alas Disney saw a chance to make more money with a character meal and we lost the best affordable sit down option at the MK. Cinderellas used to be special, now it is industrial…Such a shame…

As for fast food/quick service, we actually LEAVE the park and go to our WDW hotel to eat rather than eating the poor selection at MK. Cosmic Rays offers the best options but seating is horrible – loud or dirty and crowded depending on where you choose to sit.

    Your comments:
We can’t go to Disney without a Crystal Palace breakfast – if I didn’t book one, my husband would divorce me!
I find that the Main Street Bakery is a great spot to get a “little” something to eat (like the dinner plate sized cinnamon buns!!)while not having to spend the time in a sit-down restaurant. There’s nothing like walking down Main Street and getting a whiff of the “bakery smell”!!!

We enjoyed Breakfast at the Castle this past March. It was our kids first time in the castle and a special moment for us all. DH and I really enjoy Tony’s. I am Italian and from North Jersey and really LOVE the food here. The food no matter what meal is always great at the Crystal Palace.

QS-How can you not love a seat by Its A Small World at Pinnchios’? Wish they bring back the veggie pizza though. Love Cosmic Rays cause its so big and you can see Push around and about the place. And who doesn’t like hot dogs? The mini corn dogs are good too. Caseys is great for a late night meal watching the last parade of the night. We did it at the Not So Scarry Halloween parade this past September.

    Your comments:
Well I hate to say that the only full service restaurant at MK that I have been too is Liberty Tree. We really enjoyed it. Tony’s and the Crystal Palace are both on our list for our next trip. Also for the Counter Service Pecos Bill’s is #1 for me. I can not go to WDW and not eat there at least once. I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I love it. I also like the mini corn dogs at Casey’s Corner. We love to eat a late dinner there and try to get a table outside to watch the fireworks. It is a great viewing area.

Mike, after we finish the parks I think we should top five restaurants outside the parks. There are some great places to eat at the resorts.

    Thanks
    Bonnie Blackwell

    3) Pecos Bill’s

    Your comments:

This was a tough one for full service as we have special feelings for each. However my wife being the Pooh fan she is, she has made our daughter the same way. In addition, the buffett itself seems to be a notch above some of the other buffett offerings on property.

For counter service… who does not enjoy grabbing a dog from Casey’s, and heading outside to enjoy the surroundings and soke it all in?

  64. Counter Service:
    1. Pecos Bill
    2. Columbia Harbor House
    3. Cosmic Rays

We’ve never eaten at a full service restuarant at Disney. Pecos Bill’s has the best toppings bar.

  65. Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Liberty Tree Tavern – two words “Pot Roast.” To quote Homer Simpson, “Yummmmm”
    2)
    3)

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Pecos Bill – wonderful toppings bar and reasonable prices
    2)
    3)

Your comments: These are the only restaurants we’ve ever eaten at in MK. They are just too good to try elsewhere!

Oh, and I guess anywhere that sells Pineapple Dole Whip. After 9 visits to WDW, I finally tried this on my last visit. What was I thinking? It’s wonderful!

    2) Main Street Bakery
    3) Aloha Isle

    Your comments:
My husband and I ate at Liberty Tree Tavern in ’04 and LOVED it. We took our family back in ’07 during Thanksgiving, and were not as impressed. I don’t know what really changed, and we were extremely saddened b/c it was an excellent meal.
One thing to note on Pecos. They serve 100% beef hamburgers and taco salads there. We discovered this when taking my autistic cousins to WDW this past March.

  67. Hi Mike,

    Full Service Restaurants:

    1) Crystal Palace – fun and good food for a buffet
    2) The Plaza – relatively inexpensive, a chance to sit down, and a nice sandwich. Plus ice cream, which makes everything better!
    3) Liberty Tree Tavern

    Counter Service Locations:

    1) Columbia Harbour House – good food, and usually seating even in the busiest times upstairs
    2) Pecos Bill – great food and great toppings bar
    3) Pinnochio Village Haus – tasty food, hampered with constant seating problems

I always eat counter service at the MK, with the exception of the Crystal Palace, which I think offers the perfect combination of a fun atmosphere, good food, and decent prices. I love the food at the Noodle Station (when it’s open) for an option beyond burgers and dogs, and you can’t beat the view from Casey’s (when it’s not too hot outside!) or the ice cream cookie sandwiches at Sleepy Hollow.

  80. Hi Mike,
Thanks for this blog because on June 5th it will be 180 days out so I’ll be able to make my ressies for our Dec. 2 trip.

    2. Liberty Tree Tavern (I did like it with characters)

I can’t comment on Cinderella’s Royal Table because my boys won’t go to a “princess girl restaurant.” Years ago when I was young I did eat at King Stefan’s Banquet Hall and remember liking it.

I’m ashamed to admit that the only two table service places we’ve been to in MK are Crystal Palace, which we loved, & CInderella’s Royal Table, which we hated. Liberty Tree Tavern & The Plaza are both on our list for our next trip, for what that’s worth…

We love to eat upstairs at CHH where it’s always quiet & less crowded. It is a nice break in the middle of a very busy day. Cosmic Ray’s has offers nice alternatives to the usual burgers, chicken strips & fries for lunch.
