Fireworks Dessert Party in the Magic Kingdom Review

This past Monday I attended the Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party in the Magic Kingdom. This very popular event was held nightly for a time last year. Disney just started it back up on Sunday (March 28th); so I had reservations for the second night of the dessert party.

You may have read the following on AllEars.net:

Beginning Sunday, March 28th, the Fireworks Dessert Party returns to the Magic Kingdom. It is available nightly except on Grad Nites: April 23, April 24, April 30 and May 1.

The Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party (depending on the time of year, fireworks show may not be Wishes) opens one hour prior to Wishes and includes a buffet offering a wide range of sweets and beverages. Park admission to Magic Kingdom Park is required.

The regular price for this experience is $21.99 for adults and $11.99 for children (3-9 years old). Peak period pricing will be $25.99 for adults and $13.99 for children.

Call (407) WDW-DINE to make reservations, pre-payment will be required. While walk-ups will be allowed if space is available, to avoid disappointment make an advance reservation!

No discounts available. The Disney Dining Plan is not accepted.

I called the (407) WDW-DINE number on Sunday evening and made a reservation for the following night. The dining reservationist told me to show up at the Tomorrowland Terrace check in podium at 9:15 pm. However, I’m always early and I wanted to be one of the first to get in so I could get pictures for my blog. So, I arrived at the check-in podium at 8:30 pm. The podium was already set up and I was quickly given a wrist band and a small card with a seating location on it. At that time I was told that we would be allowed in around 9 pm; not 9:15 pm as I was told. As other guest checked in they lined up along the walkway to the Noodle Station from the Tomorrowland Terrace.

There was a card on the check-in table that the Cast Members were giving out to guests as they went by. In case you can’t read the card here’s what it says:

“NEW Fireworks Dessert Party – at the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station in the MAGIC KINGDOM Park”

Desert Party Card

The back of the card reads as follows:

“Fireworks Dessert Party includes a dessert party and exclusive viewing of Wishes, the biggest, most dazzling fireworks spectacular ever to grace the MAGIC KINGDOM skies!

For reservations call (407) WDW-DINE or visit any Table Service podium, Guest Relations or your WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort concierge. Seating is limited for this event.

The Dessert Party will include a self-service buffet featuring a wide-range of sweets and beverages.”

Here’s a picture looking into the Tomorrowland Terrace taken with Cinderella Castle behind me.

Looking into terrace

The Fireworks Dessert Party check-in podium. As I mentioned before it’s located on the walkway that runs between the Noodle Station and the Tomorrowland Terrace. When at capacity the Fireworks Dessert Party will host approximately 200 guests. This night there were fewer than 100 people there. I was told that last year it started slowly but once the word got out it sold out just about every evening. So, advance reservations are recommended.

Check in stand

Once the event opens, each guest is escorted in by a Cast Member who takes you to your table. I gave the Cast Member the small card that had my seating location on it. In my case, I was seated in Section B.

Table set up

Each table had a place card with name of the person who made the reservation and the size of the party on it.

My table

In my case, I was by myself. So, the table was already set with just one chair.

Card on table

The following pictures are of the dessert table before anyone had a chance to get at it. As you can see it was loaded with lots of wonderful desserts. Not every item was labeled, but here’s a list of some of what was on the table: Chocolate Cheesecake, Cannoli, Strawberry Berry Tart, Mango Shooter, Crisped Rice Treat, Pistachio Creme Brulee, Kiwi Orange Tart, Raspberry Tart, Chocolate Truffle, Chocolate-Chip Cookie, Brownie, and Chocolate Dipped Strawberry. In addition, there was some fruit (watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon) on the table as well.

There was a wide variety of drinks to choose from.

Drink table

You could get coffee, decaf coffee and hot water for tea here.

Coffee

The cold drink selection included milk, lemonade, raspberry lemonade, and water.

Cold drinks

There also was a table with Hot Cocoa on it. My favorite!

Hot cocoa

There also was a decent selection of teas to choose from.

Tea selection and cups

Here’s a picture of what my first plate of the evening looked like. Believe me I made a number of trips up to taste the different items. Remember, it was my job to test everything for all of you to make sure it was all worthwhile. I know, it’s a tough job but someone needs to do it! -:)

My plate

The line moved very quickly. You could go up as frequently as you wanted and eat as much or as little as you wanted. There was no shortage of food. If an item was depleted they just brought out more. They never ran out of anything that I could see. It seems that there was just as much food left on the table at the end as there was when I got there. Like with other buffets, the Cast Members removed plates, glasses, cups, etc. from your table as you went up to get more as well as when you were finally finished.

Lined up for food

Once we were done everyone had time to digest their food while waiting for the fireworks to begin.

Waiting for fireworks

The Tormorrowland Terrace is a great viewing area for the fireworks. You have a fantastic view of Cinderella Castle from there.

Cinderella Castle

And the night ended with the Wishes Fireworks. A great end to a wonderful evening!

One thing to be aware of is that Tinkerbell will fly right towards you as she flies down from the castle. So, have your cameras ready!

Wishes fireworks

I thought that the Cast Members working this event were exceptional. They were very, very friendly and attentive. I was continually asked if everything was OK, if there was anything that they could do or get for me and stopped at my table and just chatted. They made me feel very welcome and added greatly to the experience.

I would highly recommend the Fireworks Dessert Party to anyone. When I first saw the cost I thought it was a bit pricey for dessert, but now that I’ve experienced this event, the variety of desserts, the great service, the fantastic fireworks viewing area and the Wishes Fireworks makes this a decent value. I could see where this would be a fantastic event to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion.

Finally, I want to say “thank you” to Nelie who was the Manager of this Fireworks Desert Party. (She’s also one of the Managers of the Noodle Station.) Nelie was a most gracious and accommodating hostess.

Please let me know if you have any specific questions regarding this event or any comments you may have.

  1. It seems that the Dessert Party has been extended until Easter. I have just booked a table over the phone for April 20th 2011.

Thanks for the great photos Mike.

  2. It seems no one has asked this question yet: Although my husband and I will enjoy most of the desserts described, my 5-yr old really just likes plain chocolate (like choc.chip cookies) and ice cream; do they serve ice cream?

Also, since I have little ones, 5 and 8, would their view be obstructed since people line up at the railing before the fireworks display?

We will be going next week, Feb. 16, or another date.

    Thanks.

  3. My family and I are going to Disney again this spring (May 2nd, 2011) do you know how far in advance you can book this event. I called and the customer rep told me that they only are booking thru March – thanks for the info – I too am a life time Disney fan, engaged, honeymooned, vacation club member at Yacht and Beach and Wilderness and my younger sister was married at the chapel near Floridian Resort – good to see someone is as “disney” as we are thanks and I look forward to hearing from you

DizneyMike replies: Matt, my advice is to keep checking back with WDW reservations. For whatever reason, Disney hasn’t made this a permanent event. As a result you can’t book it like you would other dinner reservations. More than likely it will be extended beyond the March date but that’s not a certainty…Mike

  4. Thanks so much for the review – I just made reservations for our family in March. I noticed on the website that there were different times listed for the reservations (ours is 7:20 with an 8:00 time for wishes). It seems though that everyone should start about the same time? Do you think we should just arrive early (7 or even before)?

    Thanks!

DizneyMike replies: Rebecca, People do start to line up a bit early but there’s really no need. Everyone has a table, pre-assigned to them much like at a wedding. So, you’re going to get whatever table they assign to you regardless of when you show up. Hope this helps…Mike

  5. We just booked online for Jan 2011! Apparently the website hasn’t been updated beyond “dec 29” but it has been extended (or at least we were able to book it)!!!!

Yay! We have never been able to get a spot in the past 3 times we have been there. We are so excited!

  6. This looks wonderful. We are going in June 2011. I hope they will have it. Do you know when you can book? Is it the 180 mark or 90? Thanks for all your research and taste testing:)

    jESSE:)

DizneyMike replies: Jessica, I believe you would book this just as you would any other dining reservation…Mike

  7. Just called and there is no availability for 12/13. Think I would have luck with a walk up?

DizneyMike replies: Elise, not sure how much luck you’ll have, but it’s certainly worth a try. Good luck…Mike

  8. Were you able to see the electrical parade from the terrace of the dessert party?

DizneyMike replies: Anastasia, you won’t be able to see much of the parade from the Tomorrowland Terrace. You’ll see the tops of the floats and hear the music but you won’t be able to see the parade. However, the will give you wrist band so you can leave the dessert party and go out and watch the parade. Hope this helps…Mike

  9. I am so excited I found this post – this is just the new thing I wanted to find for our trip in Jan. 2011. We have gone on the Pirates Fireworks Cruise – and were looking for something similiar to that. Great news – I called to make a reservation tonight and they have extended the Dessert Party into 2011 (the website said it ended in Dec. 2010) – at least until mid January when we are attending. Thanks for the great pics – all my youngest could say was, “YUM!!”.

  10. Will they be offering The fireworks dessert party in 2011

    Thanks,

    Heather Bimber

DizneyMike replies: Heather, I can’t say for sure, but I think the fireworks dessert party has been a success and will more than likely be offered in 2011…Mike

  11. I fancy going to the Dessert party but probably could only eat maybe two desserts. Not to sound greedy but can you bring one or two desserts back to your hotel if you have something to wrap them up in?

DizneyMike replies: Valerie, no one was there watching over you so I believe that you could take some of the desserts back to your hotel. However, I think you’d have to wrap it and put it in a backpack or pocketbook. I don’t think they’ll let you carry it out….Mike

  12. It really does sound great, however I have such mixed feelings about it. That was my spot for many years before they did the dessert party. I don’t remember when the dessert party started but it was out of the blue. I was at Magic Kingdom one day and went to watch the firework show from my normal spot and boom, no more access unless you paid money for it. It left such a bad taste in my mouth.
Just kind of wondering if anyone else felt this way about it?

  13. I was wondering, what happens if the fireworks are canceled that night due to rain?

DizneyMike replies: Ashley, usually the only thing that would stop the fireworks would be lightening in the area. However, what you’re really paying for is the dessert and you get to eat that no matter what the weather is. So, no refund is the fireworks are cancelled….Mike

  14. Did the cost include a gratuity for the cast members who cleared the tables and worked the party? Was that something that was done in addition? Thanks!

DizneyMike replies: Christy, everything was included in the one price. The CM’s clearing the tables were not allowed to take tips; I asked….Mike

  15. I will be going to WDW in November 2010 and I was wondering, do you know if they will still on planning having the dessert party then? Thanks for any info you can provide.

DizneyMike replies: Doug, the only information that I have is that the dessert party will end on August 14th. However, Disney has a habit of extending things like this without much advance notice. My advice would be to keep calling Disney every couple weeks. Hopefully they will extend it and you’ll get to go. It was very good…Mike

  16. My family attended last December and it was a real treat! We found out about it by accident. I had placed a call to reschedule our X-mas party tickets and the representative mentioned Wishes to me. We are always interested in new experiences at WDW, so we made a reservation.

The night was beautiful and the fireworks were a sight to see. The desserts were also delicious. My only concern was that I did not find many desserts/beverages suitable for a toddler. My husband wound up going across the way to purchase apples and milk for my son to eat.

We hope to attend again this year! Definitely worth it.

  17. We went last October (2009) and got lucky that we heard about this event. It was the highlight of our trip and we had awesome seats. It honestly doesn’t matter where you sit since you can go “claim” your spot on the railing and you SHOULD. food was amazing and the fireworks from the noodle station was just perfect. it was nice to not be with the crowds on main street fighting for a view.
I called tonight and she said they have dates through October (2010) and now I just have to keep calling and pray they open up nights fro December and that it’s on the night we have open in our schedule.

Honestly we loved it so much I will rearrange our schedule so we can go to this~

DizneyMike replies: Amanda, I hope the date are extended for you. Thanks for the comment…Mike

  18. I just booked this for my June trip! I’m going June 10, and cannot wait!

DizneyMike replies: Morgan, lucky you; I’m sure you’ll enjoy it…Mike

  19. Just wanted to say I’ll be at WDW in June and had been calling periodically to see if the dessert party would be extended past May 30. Success this morning! There were June dates available and we made our reservations 🙂

DizneyMike replies: Jessica, congratulations! When you go be sure to have one of those raspberry tarts for me. Yummy…Mike

  20. Hi great news Disney are now taking reservations for the Dessert Party up until 14th August 2010.

DizneyMike replies: Lynn, that’s good news. I kinda thought that this Dessert Party would be extended. Enjoy…Mike

  21. Mike,
I would like to attend the party, but I also want to view the Spectromagic Parade from the street. Do you think that I would have enough time to leave the parade at its conclusion and still make the party? Just don’t know if I would have time to enjoy the desserts by cutting it so close. What do you think?

DizneyMike replies: Bernadette, yes, you will be able to see the parade and still partake in the dessert party. Once you check in they give you a wrist band that lets you come and go as you please. Also, since you get assigned seating you won’t lose you seat if you leave….Mike

  22. How is the viewing of the Parade from the Dessert Party? I see only one mention of it in the comments above and it sounds fine, but thought I would ask if anyone else had any comments. We have reservations for a night during the first week of May.

DizneyMike replies: Mark, you can see the Main Street Electrical Parade as it passed by BUT it was not like viewing it from the street. First of all there are lots of people lining the sidewalks so all you can see is what appears of the floats above the heads of those standing people. That’s probably three quarters of the floats; the bottom section is blocked from your view. Secondly, you are watching it from a distance. I hope that answers your question….Mike

  23. I’m so excited aboutt his! Your pictures are wonderful and descriptions are great!
I’d read on another allears blog about the event last year when they first brought it back this year. Do they still leave the lights on overhead? I think it was a concern that the lights obstruct the view of the fireworks…
    Jillian

DizneyMike replies: Jillian, the lighting wasn’t a problem the night that I was there and didn’t interfere with the fireworks at all. Thanks for the comment….Mike

  24. I am very happy to see them offering the dessert party again. We are attending WDW 8/15/10. I hope they will continue it. My concern is that we have a dinner res at 7pm at the castle and may not be hungry for the dessert and do not want to waist the money. IDK ill see when time gets closer.

DizneyMike replies: Sherri, dinner at 7 pm and an all you can eat dessert party shortly thereafter would be too much for me. I’m full just thinking about it….Mike

  25. I am torn about this event. This is the location that we always watched Wishes from – for FREE. Now I have to pay. 🙁

However, I will look forward to the dessert and not having to “stake my claim” on a good table/location more than an hour prior to the start of Wishes.

So in the end, it should be a good thing. Looks like I’ll be handing Disney even more of my money (if that’s possible) to get what I used to get for free.

DizneyMike replies: Gayle, this dessert party is not a year round event. Right now it’s only scheduled till the end of May. So, depending on when you visit you may get you free viewing area back….Mike

  26. Is this party available on September??

DizneyMike replies: Aslin, as of right now the dessert party is only scheduled until the end of May. You may want to call (407) WDW-DINE from time to time to see if they extend the dates…Mike

  27. Gigi I had the same problem. Im staying May 11-May 18 and all the days were booked the first two times I called. However today I got an agent who said it wasn’t available but then asked if I was staying at a Disney Resort. I’m staying at the Port Orleans Riverside and just like that he had it available for every night. The first two agents I got never asked and I never thought to tell them. I would really try walking up because it seems that they hold space.

DizneyMike replies: Ron thanks for posting the info about staying at a Disney resort….Mike

  28. Yesterday I tried to make reservation with three different associates for summer dates and all three said that at this time the dessert party has only been scheduled into May.

DizneyMike replies: JJ, hopefully they will extend the dessert party into June. Just keep watching for news on AllEars….Mike

  29. Do they pipe in the music or is it loud enough to hear it clearly?

DizneyMike replies: Sobeida, there are speakers all over. So, no matter where you watch the fireworks you will be able to hear the music….Mike

  30. Would you recommend watching wishes from the dessert party or from main street if its my first visit to disney world?

DizneyMike replies: Sobeifa, the advantage of seeing the fireworks for the dessert party is that you have a beautiful, unobstructed view with no crowds to contend with. The downside is that from that location you don’t get the affect of seeing the fireworks go off over the castle. So, the better affect, for me, would be on Main Street, but keep in mind that you do have to contend with the crowds. Enjoy that trip…Mike

  31. I loved reading about this, and excitedly called Disney Dining today, 4/8, and was so very disappointed to find out there is no availability for the week of May 7. I have a hard time believing it’s sold out a month in advance, but the cast member could find no availability for any night from May 7 to May 12. I’ll try again later in the hopes someone cancels, but right now, it looks like I’ll just be having a Mickey Ice Cream in the middle of Main Street.

DizneyMike replies: Gigi, all I can say is keep calling. Also, they do take walk-ups. So, you may want to get to the check-in podium early and see if there are any openings…Mike

  32. If there is enough time from when you make the reservation until you attend the dessert party, you can write an e-mail to [email protected] and let them know about your allergies, they then will send you some detailed general informations regarding special food items they have as well as a form where you can detail all the food allergies and restrictions for your party and also give all the reservations you have during your stay and they will let the restaurant managers and chefs know. When you check in at the restaurants, you then should also request to see the manager or chef and remind them about your allergies again and they should be prepared.

On a shorter notice, they also have a website:
    http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/special-dietary-requests/

They also mention a phone number there you can call for questions regarding special dietary requests.

DizneyMike replies: Marc, thank you very much for providing that information regarding Disney accommodating special dietary needs. It’s much appreciated…Mike

  33. Since the Dessert Party just returned, I thought I’d give you some updates.

We attended on Tuesday night, April 6th. This was one of those Spring Break days at Magic Kingdom that was so crowded, they had to close the gates for a few hours as they were at capacity. So even if the Dessert party price seemed expensive, it was worth it because we could ride attractions until 8:45 then hop right into the Dessert party where we could watch the Electric Light parade and Wishes Fireworks with no crowds and no waiting. Waiting in line to enter is not necessary because your reserved table is marked with a card, which I imagine is mostly based on when you made reservations (and party size) because myself and the table next to ours made reservations within hours of the Dessert Party being reintroduced and we both had front row tables. they give you wristbands so that you can leave the party for rides or to use the restrooms across the sidewalk but you do not feel the need to line-up for this party. You can see the SpectroMagic Light parade as it moves up Main Street, over the bridge and circles in front of Cinderella’s Castle.

The desserts were yummy. A few were awesome and many were just average but you get to try them all – and believe me, we DID try them ALL – so it’s a great value. All the drinks, etc. are mentioned above so I won’t repeat what is already stated. But I did want to let you know that they do not clear the desserts during the fireworks. They leave them up throughout and even after the fireworks. We stayed after the fireworks to avoid the crowded sidewalks, and when there were only two or three tables left, the staff came around and asked if we wanted anything else form the buffet before the cleared it. Service was second-to-none.

Only half of the tables were full on our night but we had no trouble viewing the fireworks. Most people watched from their tables. Two or three parties stood at the wall but were never in anybody’s way because there is so much wall space.

Our only complaint from the entire event is something that was out of Disney’s control. There were some wind gusts right before they parade and they ended up scrapping Tinkerbell’s flight. So even though she literally flies from Cinderella’s castle RIGHT TOWARDS your table at the Dessert Party (and onto the roof, out of sight), we didn’t get to experience it on our night.

Overall, the steep price for this Dessert party was worth it in my book. The food, coffee & juice were delicious but the real treat was having a front row (padded) seat reserved for the parade and fireworks, with no pushing & shoving from fellow sweaty tourists who wait two hours or more for their spot along the parade route. I recommend the Wishes Dessert Party for anyone who wants to cap off their Magic Kingdom visit with just one more pinch of magic!

DizneyMike replies: Thanks for sharing your experience at the dessert party with us…Mike

  34. What were the changes made during the recent rehab? I went to the party in October and it was lovely. I was wondering if they just made the area more permanent for the Dessert Party or if they did actual construction.

By the way, the evening I went, it was full and I never felt crowded at all. Most people watch the fireworks from their seats because the view is so great. There were only a few children up at the wall to see Tinker Bell fly.

DizneyMike replies: Jean, I’m not sure about this, but I read that part of the renovation was putting in ceiling fans to help cool the place during those hot summer nights….Mike

  35. You’ve made me want to make my reservations for December again! (I have every hope they will keep extending the party like last year.) We absolutley loved it and felt it was well worth the price, just for the huge chocolate covered strawberries & pistachio creme brulee.

Here’s a little tip if you go during the Christmas holidays – hang around after the fireworks and watch the castle change colors(we could still get drinks). We just sat at our table and enjoyed the castle while the crowds left the park. It made for a short wait at the boat to get back to our resort! Thanks for the review!

DizneyMike replies: Sue, great tip! Thanks for sharing it with us…Mike

  36. Hi Mike,
Just wanted to let you and your readers know that the dessert party will be ending on May 31st. I tried last week to get reservations for June 13th and was told at that time that the dessert party will end on May 31st. I was very disappointed, but what can you do. Thanks for all of the great blogs,

DizneyMike replies: Bonnie, Disney has been known to extend events like the dessert party. So, as your departure date gets closer you should check again; who knows you could get lucky. Let’s hope so! Thanks for the comment….Mike

  37. Always enjoy your blog Mike! And thanks for toughing it out and trying all those desserts for us! 😉

One quick question… (and you might not have an answer for this one) do they have any peanut free options? Would love to try this but a lot of desserts are NOT peanut free at WDW. But at most WDW restaurants they’ve been wonderful at accommodating us, though. Can you make a note of an allergy when you book this?

DizneyMike replies: Sarah, you’re right, I don’t know for sure whether or not there are any peanut free options. I can tell you that nothing was labeled “peanut free”. However, I do know that Disney does everything possible to accommodate guests with food allergies. So, I would call and see what they have to say. And, thanks for recognizing the sacrifice I made for everyone by eating all those desserts. -:) ….Mike

  38. Mike

Thanks for the review – we are going at the end of the month and I’ll have to see if I can convince the rest of the family to give it a try.

Do you know if there is a similar event in Epcot for their fireworks?

DizneyMike replies: Tom, I’m sure you will enjoy the dessert party. And, there isn’t anything like this for Illuminations in Epcot. Who knows, that may happen one of these days…Mike

  39. My wife and I participated in the Dessert Party last November. It is a wonderful event. I highly recommend it. The event was sold out when we went, but it did not seem crowded at all. Everyone rushes to the dessert tables at first (which makes you think they will run out of food and it will be crowded the entire time), but after 5 minutes or so, you can get as much desserts as you want at your liesure. There was never a shortage. You will be sick to your stomach with sweets (in a good way) because there is so much to eat. The price is great, the food and drink are plenty and amazing…and the personal table per reservation, and the perfect fireworks viewing area makes this a must-do event!

DizneyMike replies: Scott, thanks for telling us about your experience at the dessert party….Mike

  40. The dessert party sounds so good I called a couple days ago to make reservations for our trip in June. I was very disappointed to find out that the Firework Dessert Party is only going on till the end of May!! There are no plans right now to extend it past then. It sounded so good too!

DizneyMike replies: Cindy, keep checking AllEars as it’s not unusual for Disney to extend events like this. Hopefully, that will happen and you’ll be able to enjoy the dessert party…Mike

  41. We had a chance to try the fireworks dessert party last October. While the desserts were delicious and abundant, the greater value for us was the ability to leisurely walk up to the rail and view the fireworks without obstruction. There is nothing more frustrating than staking out a space on Main Street and then to have someone crowd your space and view two minutes before the fireworks are to begin. No one had to stand behind one another to view the fireworks during our party.

While it has been noted previously, just not in this report, Tinkerbelle soars directly over the party to start the fireworks. Both the kids and adults loved that. Another thing to note, when choosing a space along the railing, choose a location towards the center or towards Tomorrowland since the public smoking area is just below the railing towards the Plaza Restaurant. By the time we realized this the fireworks had begun. That was the only little problem that we encountered that entire evening. Otherwise I would highly recommend it.

Mike, were they still offering the services of a Disney Photo Pass photographer prior to the fireworks? We got a nice family photo with the castle in the background. It was a nice added touch.

DizneyMike replies: Pudge, thanks for sharing all that information with us! You know, there was a PhotoPass photographer there, but she was off to the side and made no attempt to take anyone’s picture or to announce her presence. She may have done so, but I never saw her take one picture….Mike

  42. We’ve been to the Fireworks Desert Party 2 or 3 times now, you can request sugar free deserts from one of the cast members and they will do their best to accomodate you. We sat next to a family where one of them made the request and out came a nice sized plate of fruits, various sugar free ice creams and other goodies, etc.

Also if you call and can’t get a reservation still try and walk up to the podium a couple of hours before the event starts, each time we’ve gone so far we called and there was no seating available, but we walked up and had success.

As for capacity, the first time we went it was still fairly new and they were using a smaller area (the deserts and all seating were on the same level), so pretty much everybody could stand on the rail and watch. The other times they expanded the seating (moved the food up to the other level) and not everybody could stand at the rail, however even standing behind a person or two was not a problem as there is plenty of ‘sky-view’ so one could see all of the fireworks. And it’s far less crowded than standing on main street. 😉

DizneyMike replies: Andrew, GREAT information! Thanks for giving us that additional insight….Mike

  43. Mike,
Another great review. Do they offer any soft drinks? Not sure that I am willing to spend $22 as I wouldn’t eat that many desserts. When I heard about this party a few months ago I was extremely disappointed because this is where we always watched the fireworks for FREE. Guess it is Disney property so will have to find a new spot. Just my opinion but it seems that everything at Disney just keeps getting more expensive.

DizneyMike replies: Vern, no Coke or sodas are offered. The cold drinks consisted of fruit drinks like lemonade. Regarding things getting more expensive, I always tell my friends that you’ll never see a sign that reads “non-profit” at WDW. Their job is to make as much money as they can and they do a pretty good job of it; unfortunately at our expense….Mike

  44. were there any sugar free desserts offered?

DizneyMike replies: Michael, I didn’t see any “sugar free” desserts….Mike

  45. When did they start taking the food away? I attended a fireworks dessert party at Disneyland several years ago and they started removing the goodies once the fireworks started. Just curious if this one works the same way, or if you can still partake in the desserts during the fireworks.

    Thanks,
    Mark

DizneyMike replies: Mark, like at Disneyland, the desserts were taken away once the fireworks started….Mike

  46. Mike, nice review and pics. I wasn’t sure how much food would be offered, but now I see it is worth the price for most people. It’s also a great place to view the Fireworks. Sugar overload!

DizneyMike replies: Jimmy, you can be assured that they will be PLENTY of food and a great variety! Unfortunately there may be one or two calories mixed in….Mike

  47. Mike, your pictures here are making my stomach growl! I did the Fireworks Dessert Party on December 29 last year, and it was amazing. The raspberry tarts were my favourite. Mmm! I would do the whole party again just to have more of those raspberry tarts.

You’re making me strongly consider this event again for my next trip! Thanks for the blog.

To answer Kimberly’s question, I’m not sure whether my party on Dec 29 was at capacity, but I bet it was — everything is at capacity between Christmas and New Years. And no, you really didn’t have to fight for space. Shortly before the fireworks started, almost everyone gravitated to the railing to watch, but there was plenty of room. If you wanted to stay at your table, you’d still have a good view. It’s a great space.

DizneyMike replies: Deanna, thanks for passing along that information. I agree that it is a great space to view the fireworks! And, I think I ate both mine and your share of those raspberry tarts; they were that good! Thanks for the comment…Mike

  48. I really hope that they are still having these dessert parties when I go to WDW again. I was worried my husband might think it was expensive too, but he told me, “Honey, I have NO DOUBT that you could eat $20 of desserts.” LOL!!! And when I showed him the pics, he started drooling right along with me. =)

DizneyMike replies: Everything I ate was as good as it looked; and I ate just about one of everything. I do hope you get to enjoy this on your next trip…Mike

  49. Mike — With all of those people on the Terrace, did you feel like you had to fight for a space?? My husband and I are going in May and I am interested in the party as long as I am not having to elbow my way for a good spot 🙂

DizneyMike replies: Kimberly, the night I went the dessert party wasn’t at full capacity. There wasn’t any feeling of having to fight for space. Everyone has an assigned table and many guests watched the fireworks from their table. Some stood up by the wall to get a closer look. It’s a pretty big area so I don’t think that would be a problem.. Maybe a reader who attended on a night it was at capacity will let us know how that went….Mike
