Eat to the Beat Concerts: Big Bad VooDoo Daddy

Let the fun begin! Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival has begun. And, that means the wonderful Eat to the Beat concert series is being held nightly at the American Garden Theater in front of the American Adventure.

First up was the Big Bad VooDoo Daddy. Wow, what a group! They really put on a great show. Everyone, young and old, was tapping their feet to the bands wonderful sound.

We stayed for the first two shows and must say we were a little disappointed that they pretty much played the same numbers in both sets. I would have liked to have heard different songs from them in each set. Surprisingly the first show was only about 95% full and the second only 80% full.

Also, I have a new camera, one of those point and shoot, super zoom cameras. I hope you like the close ups!

  1. I specifically came for the concerts on Friday night, September 25, as I had seen BBVD last year and thought they were great. Last year they DID play different songs each set and only repeated some songs in two sets, not all three. I was disappointed that it was the same show all three times, although I did watch all of them and will be back next year. Thanks for the blogs!

  2. We were there for opening night of the Eat to the Beat. LOVED Big Bad Voodoo Daddy!! What could be a better way to celebrate a birthday–good food, good company and GREAT music. We will be back.

  3. Hi Mike! My family enjoyed the BBVD concert on Saturday @ 6:30pm. My 15yo son plays jazz sax and has them on his ipod so was thrilled to be able to see them in action. It was a high-energy, toe-tapping show! The amphitheater was full for this show & the line for the next one looked long. A great evening!

  4. Hi, Mike! We were there for the 5:15 p.m. show Friday afternoon! Great show! We walked up about 5:10 p.m. and were able to get seats in about the back row. My daughter just started playing the trombone this year in her Middle School Band class, so it was cool for her to see what she could do with it! This was our first Food & Wine Fest (and, of course, Eat to the Beat concert!) and we loved it! Hope to get back to another Festival soon!

  5. My wife and I were at the 6:30 performance on opening night. She was familiar with “Big Bad…” but I was not. I must say I was quite impressed – they were great. Very tight and entertaining.

We’ve been at past Eat to the Beat concerts and have found the same thing, that at least the bands we’ve seen often repeat most if not all the songs from one set to the next. Maybe Disney’s contract calls for them to perform all their top hits each performance? It’s too bad, because often people attend multiple performances. Still, it’s great to see such good acts at Epcot.

DizneyMike replies: Terry, for the past four or five years I’ve gone to most of the Flower Power Concerts, Sounds Like Summer Concerts and Eat to the Beat Concerts at Epcot. I find that the problem is that most of the groups only had enough hits for one set. So, since the audience turns over pretty much each show, they repeat those same hits. That’s unfortunate for the 10% to 20% of the audience that stays for a second or third show. However, some performers will change up some of the not so popular tunes while still playing their big hits each set. The only exception is during the Sounds Like Summer concert series. Tribute band of mega groups like ABBA, BeeGees and the Eagles have enough big hits that they need to spread them out over two or three different sets….Mike

  6. Mike, loved your pictures and recap! I just bought a superzoom too and I’m having so much fun with it! Glad you are enjoying yours. I can’t wait to see the next blogs 🙂

  7. I love the pictures. They are a great group. We have seen them at Mohegan Sun. They really are crowd pleasers.

Judy, yes they are! See you next week….Mike

  8. I remember the name Big Bad Voodoo Daddy but none of their songs. What did they sing? Regardless, I’d have probably gone to the concert. They are always good, and oddly enough that always surprises me.

DizneyMike replies: Suzie, yes there were very, very good. I’m sure you would have enjoyed them! Some of the songs they played are: “Minnie the Moocher”, “I wanna be like you”, and “You & Me & The Bottle Makes Three”…Mike

  9. I found out about your blog going live through your Facebook group! I love Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and wish I could have been there. The close up shots are great!!!
