Spring Training Baseball at Disney’s Wide World of Sport

Monday my wife, Julie, and I headed over to watch our beloved Boston Red Sox play the Atlanta Braves in a Spring Training baseball game at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. I have to tell you that Disney’s Champion Stadium is such a beautiful place to watch a baseball game.

Champion Stadium

At the time we purchased our tickets the only seats available were “lawn” seats. If you’ve never been to Champion Stadium besides regular seating they have lawn seating on the third base side and left field side of the stadium. The stadium seats 9,000 people and today it was a sell out and they were selling standing room only tickets because of the demand.

Here’s some pictures of the ball park taken during the game:

The game did have a touch of Disney as Goofy, in his baseball uniform, escorted a lucky youngster out to the mound to throw out the first pitch. Also, between innings they had trivia questions with all the prizes awarded being Walt Disney World related; like a round of golf at a Disney golf course or boat rental at one of the Disney resorts. The concessions were run by Disney so the food was very good and expensive.

Getting in and out of Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex was a breeze. Disney had plenty of Cast Members directing traffic. It always amazes me how well Disney does managing crowds and traffic.

As for the game, well it had the feel of a Red Sox home game. Even though Champion Stadium in the Spring Training home of the Atlanta Braves I would say that Red Sox fans outnumbered Braves fans by a five to one margin. Boston Fans are passionate about their Sox!

I do want to thank a wonderful couple and their beautiful children who were sitting right in front of us for helping with the pictures. Jason (Dad), Koren (Mom), Meredith (daughter) and Nate (son) are Red Sox fans that now live in Mount Dora.

Well, that’s all for now. As my good friend says “see ya real soon”…DizneyMike
