Contributing photographer Jason of disneygeek.com sends us these photos from his trip to the parks on Friday, February 15, 2013. To kick off the President's Day weekend I spent Friday afternoon/evening at the Disneyland Resort. It was one of those winter days where you are reminded how nice Southern California is, the temperature crept up to the low 80s and there was a pleasant breeze most of the day. The crowds at the parks were on the heavy side due to the holiday weekend and great weather.
True Love Week was in full swing around the Resort still as part of the Limited Time Magic campaign. This included the return of some Valentine decorations to Town Square.
As well as a photo meet and gree with Mickey and Minnie (who were alternating with Donald and Daisy) with a heart backdrop.
At the point in Town Square was a large heart to take pictures around. Thought it was fun a picture catching a glimpse of Dale through the crowd in the background...
The castle had some banners for True Love Week.
The Fantasy Faire project is racing along toward the announced opening date of March 12th. They were working well into the evening in the area.
The waits around the park were on the high side, 40 minutes for the Jungle Cruise this afternoon.
There are now signs up at all Fastpass distribution areas reminding you that you are to return during the window on the ticket. Cast members are starting to enforce the end time which is a new practice for Disneyland, WDW started doing this last year.
The Bayou Bash is over and New Orleans Square is back to normal.
The Billies have returned to the Golden Horseshoe and the menu has returned to normal too (minus the cheese sticks).
One of the Big Thunder Ranch residents was out near the Big Thunder entrance.
The Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree area had performing arts groups today. Plus a couple of Country Bears roaming around.
The Mad Tea Party has returned. Anyone ride yet? Did they change the resistance again?
For True Love Week Princes were escorting their Princesses at the Meet and Greet area along "small world" way. Here are several pictures of the royal couples.
Belle has a new gown now, check out my 2/1 update for pictures of the old one if you do not remember it.
Near by... Cinderella's stepmother and stepsisters...
Some flowers and other props for True Love Week in Snow White's Grotto.
The Opera House was being turned into a Cinema for the evening for an Annual Passholder screening of Lady and the Tramp, because of these showings Great Moments ran its last show at 3:00pm.
To celebrate Presidents weekend I had to stop by and watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.
There were a fair number of tourists in the showing I attended. The Cast Member doing the introduction to conclude his spiel said now reach below your seat to find your 3D glasses and more than half the audience bent over to look for them!
Made my way to DCA.
They announced an Annual Passholder Preview for the Oz sneak peek this evening. It was on the AP website and there were signs in the park.
The Hyperion Bridge paint scheme is continuing to evolve. Not sure where it is going...
Disney Junior is currently closed for an update.
Oz has taken over the Muppet theater. A photo op out front.
Walked by the Racers and noticed the Fastpass return line was backed up. Only a 90 minute standby wait.
The Lunar New Year menu was still available in the Pacific Wharf Cafe
I walked back to Cars Land to eat.. here was the view from my table.. a great vista to relax and eat.
The DCA Fastpass machines also received signs.
The Silly Symphony Swings are being worked on. The ride mechanism looks like it has been removed. I could not go on the Fun Wheel for pics unfortunately.
The refurbishment of Grizzly River Run is slowly moving along.
The cupcakes in the Cafe on Buena Vista Street.
A couple special offerings at Award Wieners for the Oz preview.
On the way into the screening they gave everyone bubbles. I heard there were buttons too but somehow missed those.
Time for the clip which ran about 8 minutes.
For True Love Week there was a brief (2 minute) castle projection/light show. Here is a video of the event. The castle lighting effects looked better in person but you can get a feel for it and the projections with this video.
Stills of the event.
Fantasmic returned this evening. I managed to find two sets of Glow Ears to stand behind and see how they interact with the show. As I looked around the audience I saw maybe a handful of them only.
Since the Mark Twain is out of service the characters all take to the stage for the finale.
