Mardi Gras Mischief at Disneyland

For the Mardi Gras themed Family Fun weekends, many of the characters are hanging out in New Orleans Square, dressed in their Mardi Gras best.

I don't know what was in the air on Friday - whether it was spring fever brought on by the first warm and sunny day we've had in a while, or if it was the spirit of Mardi Gras, but whatever it was it had Pluto full of mischief. It was really a lot of fun to watch his antics.

While I was waiting for Princess Tiana's Mardi Gras Celebration to begin, Chip was greeting guests on the terrace next to me.

Suddenly Pluto came over, and started sniffing all over Chip.

And then he grabbed the autograph book Chip had been signing and put it in his mouth.

He carried it over to the corner where he "dug a hole" and "buried it.

The little girl went over and got it back and Pluto laid down in the corner (she went back and gave him a big hug, though. :-) )

Then he got up and sat on the steps beside a young couple and laid his head on the girl's shoulder.

He went over to where Dale was greeting guests and dragged him back to the stage where the jazz band was playing. (You can see Pluto was wearing his special Mardi Gras collar!)

It was time for the jazz band to leave and Pluto and Dale went out behind them, though Pluto appeared to "nip" Dale's tail. :-) (Nice to see Pluto exact a little revenge, since I think the chipmunks normally get the better of him in the cartoons!)

It was a lot of fun to see Pluto demonstrate so much personality. One of the highlights of my day!

Very cool! It's things like these that I wish WDW had more of... most of the time all you see there is characters with lines... sign autograph, take picture, next! sign autograph take picture, next! That's not how disney characters act... they're at home, they should act like this, and they are bound to get into a little bit of trouble.

Laura replies: They seem to give the characters a little more freedom at Disneyland for some reason. It's fun.

Elizabeth Goodman:

It was fun to see the interaction between the characters and the little girl. Like the previous person's comment, it would be nice to see more of this at WDW. I think the reason it doesn't happen often is because of the huge crowds. Although, one year at WDW, we did see a great interaction between Buzz Lightyear and the green army men, during which the army men kept hiding Buzz' signature stamper. It was truly a funny thing to observe. Thanks for sharing!

Ashley:

I love it when the characters get frisky!

We did the character lunch at Hollywood & Vine about 10 years ago & there were only a few other tables there that day so Chip, Dale, & Pluto came around quite a few times. I was seated with my back to the aisle and the 2nd time Pluto came around he started playing with my hair & stuffing crayons into my ponytail. We took pics with him & when we told him we had a cat at home he threw himself on the floor crying.

The next day we did the ice cream social at the land pavilion where Chip & Dale had overalls instead of just the vests they wore at H&V. Again, they weren't crowded so the characters had lots of time to visit. My grandpa made a comment about costume change, and Dale actually wrote in my notebook "Disney is too cheap for pants!"
