Buried (Disney) Treasure

I’ve been cleaning my desk over the last week or so – which in some ways is more like an archeological dig – or a treasure hunt without a map! I’ve unearthed some interesting items in the piles, and thought I would share some of them. (These are in no particular order at this point – I didn’t catalog them – Indy would be SO disappointed in me!)

Celebrate button – circa 2009

World of Color light-up bracelet – blue, of course! From June 11, 2010.

World of Color cookie from the June 10, 2010 World Premiere event. (No, I am not planning to eat it.)

Small Tigger notepad, with orange pages. Date unknown.

Mickey Monitor from spring 2009, showcasing Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival.

Ahhh…this was a find – an AllEarsnet.com 10th anniversary button! Very rare. Do you realize that AllEars will be celebrating its 15th anniversary in January 2011?

At the D23 Expo this year we were shut out of the Muppets presentation (too many people wanted to attend!) so they took our names and addresses and promise to send “something cute”. This showed up about a month later. Not exactly what I was hoping for…it wasn’t even autographed!

Zagat’s new (at the time) Disneyland Guide, from April 2009.

I don’t remember who gave this to me or how long I’ve had it – it might just be the oldest thing on this list! (Though far from being the oldest thing on my desk…that honor probably goes to a piece of Half Dome cable, used from 1934-1984 – but that’s not Disney-related.)

mydesk0807_16.jpg

Map of Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, from May 2007. I don’t think they give these out anymore.

Ahhh…another treasure! A map from Disneyland’s 50th anniversary, July 17, 2005. This particular item was actually protected in a sturdy envelope.

These were actually not on my desk, but they’re on a shelf in my office, and I figured they went with the preceding item. 🙂

And a treasure collection isn’t complete without some gold coins, aye Matey? These are mint chocolate coins (even better than gold, in my book!) from our Med cruise in May.

I actually have one other item I want to share, but I’ll save that one for a separate blog entry.

  1. Sheesh……you guilted me into cleaning! In my endeavors I have found numerous Disney World receipts (2004 was the oldest), many old Passporters, a small stuffed Minnie (year unknown) and my Fav is a picture of the trip we (spouse, myself, and daughter) made with my parents, sister and nephew in front of Restaurantosaurus in 2005. We all looked so happy (and younger)! I was one of the unfortunate children who didn’t travel to The World as a child. I was married for a couple of years before I ever made it. One of these days I will be independently wealthy and will get to go at LEAST once a year. Hehehe….Dreams, may they never fade!

Laura replies: Sorry about the cleaning guilt, but sounds like you found some things that brought back great memories! 🙂

  2. This morning, I was going through a box left over from our last office move, and came across a few Disney treasures. A few hours later, I’m reading your blog entry!

    I found a vanilla-scented, classic Mickey-shaped candle, a thank-you gift from a former co-worker that I helped with her Disney trip. Mickey’s hands holding a message pad (from Walt’s 100th). An Animal Kingdom glass, from McDonald’s celebration of Walt’s 100th. A snowglobe.

That’s in addition to the Mickey & Minnie frame holding a picture of my husband & I on our Walt Disney World honeymoon in ’96 — AllEars helped me plan that trip, and maybe it will help me plan a 15th anniversary trip next year.

  3. I have my Trading Pin lanyard at my desk, and my luau lei I got from our trip to the Polynesian this past January.

  4. With out digging though the mess on my desk, I see a glow cube from the Magical Dreams Glowtini, a old page of stamps with winnie the pooh,in my desk are 3 disney pens that do not write anymore-I’ll get ink refills for them eventually,The Imagineering Feild guide to AK (so that’s where that disappeared to)and multiple copies of maps to all of the parks, some few years old…

  5. I have two clip magnets from the two years I have visited–2008 and 2010. I also have Barrie’s Disney Calandar on my cube wall and the August Desktop calandar as my wallpaper.

  6. Neat that you had this article. I looked at our desk (this is on a shelf) and found treasure. A little yellow glass vase with a Winnie the Pooh topper on it. This is from 1996 at the Studio’s. I was pregnant with my first child. I haven’t pay attention to it much until you reminded me! 🙂
    Thank you!

  7. I have several Hello Kitty items and random toys from Mitsukoshi in Epcot’s Japan pavilion (I can’t walk out of there without buying SOMETHING!), a Stitch bobble-body (not just his head – he bobbles at the waist) sporting a Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses, and figurines of Dr. Doofenschmirtz and Perry the Platypus from Phineas & Ferb. And, although not at my desk, I can see Characters in Flight from my office when it’s up! I’m in downtown Orlando – that’s nearly an 18 mile drive!
