Gingerbread and Holiday Treats Around the "World"


Deck the halls, hang your stockings and decorate the tree, because the holiday season has officially arrived. The sights and sounds of The Most Wonderful Time of the Year reign freely at Disney Parks, where tried and true gingerbread treats and other magical displays are coming to life. The pastry teams at Walt Disney World Resort continues its annual tradition of baking some of the most stunning gingerbread and chocolate displays in the country, creating true destination-worthy displays of food as art. For those Disney enthusiasts that only come during the holiday season, to Annual Passholders and frequent visitors to the Happiest Place on Earth, these gorgeous culinary masterpieces are must-see experiences for Guests of all ages.

Life-sized Gingerbread House (Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa - WDW)

Life-size holiday gingerbread house (with over 10,000 pieces of gingerbread) in the hotel lobby. The Bake Shop uses a classic gingerbread recipe from Austria to make their gingerbread houses, ornaments, and cookies. Gingerbread house decorating demos are conducted in front of the gingerbread house daily. This year, the gingerbread house pin will feature penguins from Mary Poppins and celebrates its 19th year as a tradition at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Life-size Holiday Carousel (Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts - WDW)

This life-size, edible spinning carousel is holiday tradition at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resort celebrating its 18th year. Lilo & Stitch-themed carousel horses with coordinating, hand-painted holiday characters join handcrafted gingerbread snowman and snowflakes and spin round and round. This year, 18 hidden Mickeys will be added to commemorate each year of this beloved tradition and the holiday pin will feature Lilo & Stitch.


Cinderella Castle (Disney’s Contemporary Resort – 3rd Floor- WDW – NEW THIS YEAR)

Cinderella Castle recreated in a Mary Blair-style set on an “it’s a small world” backdrop, with oversized gingerbread cookies depicting Cinderella and Prince Charming greeting guests from the Castle forecourt. The 18’ tall display is crafted from thousands of gingerbread blocks, rolled fondant, and modeling chocolate.

Gingerbread African-Inspired Marketplace (Tusker House Restaurant, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park - WDW)

A 3-foot long Gingerbread African-inspired Market Place located at Tusker House Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. This sweet display includes 25 lbs. of dark chocolate, 23 lbs. of bread flour, 10 lbs of confectioner's sugar and plenty of holiday spirit!

United States Capitol Building (Epcot, The American Adventure Pavilion - WDW)

This historic U.S. sites comes to life in a sweet way with over 50 lbs. of gingerbread, 20 lbs. of icing, handcrafted chocolate holiday trees, a pond made entirely of sugar and 6 hidden Mickeys. This year, the Lincoln Memorial will make its delectable debut to the display.

Gingerbread Disney Springs Icons (Amorette’s Patisserie, Disney Springs - WDW – NEW THIS YEAR)

Represents the story behind the iconic Town Center at Disney Springs and includes 45 lbs. of bread flour, 15 lbs. of dark chocolate, 10 lbs. confectioners’ sugar, 15 lbs. eggs, 15 lbs. honey and one hidden heart.

Haunted Mansion Holiday Gingerbread House (Haunted Mansion, DLR)

This fanciful gingerbread creation features Oogie Boogie, who gets his chance to shine after a 13-year absence in the ballroom, thrilling fans of "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas." The house is six feet tall to the roof point, but the animated Oogie Boogie himself is seven feet tall. The house is made of over 200 lbs of gingerbread, 200 pounds powdered sugar, 4 gallons egg whites, 1 gallon lemon juice, 30 lbs white chocolate, 50 lbs gum paste, 50 lbs of fondant, 1/3 lb of glitter and over 200 hours of Disney Culinary Magic! There are more than 70 bugs “scurrying” across the ballroom table and the ballroom itself. We have been told there might be a few gingerbread bugs that have escaped out of the ballroom … think you can find them?


Life-size Gingerbread House (Disney Dream - DCL)

Holidays are magical aboard the Disney Dream where a giant gingerbread house fills the air with delicious smells and holiday cheer. During Very Merrytime Cruises, each Disney Cruise Line ship boasts its own oversized gingerbread house, handcrafted by the crew and decked in Disney-themed décor.

Holidays Around the World in Epcot Changes

The changes in Epcot live entertainment offerings continue into the Holiday Season.

The Disney Parks Blog announced new experiences will take plan in Mexico, Morocco and China.

"In Mexico, guests will enjoy the songs and traditions of "Fiesta de Navidad," featuring colorful dancers and mariachis, who celebrate the holiday customs of Mexico in an interactive, musical performance. A Moroccan storyteller invites guests to join her on a journey to experience the gaiety of festivals, holiday traditions, and celebrations that are like the "spice of life" across Morocco. And the China pavilion bursts to life with the vibrant Chinese Lion Dance, bringing good fortune and happiness to all in honor of major holidays such as the Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival."

Returning this year are the Canadian Holiday Voyageurs, Joyful! A Gospel Celebration and Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Based on this announcement is seems as though Los Tres Reyes (Mexico), the Monkey King (China), and Taarji (Morocco) are not part of the Holidays Around the World in 2014.

Walt Disney World Resort at Holidaytime Unwraps Festive Traditions, Glistening Ice Castle and Seasonal Spectacles


LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - Disney elves blend yuletide traditions and Christmas cheer to create a wintry wonderland ready for holiday revelers at Walt Disney World Resort as early as November 9. There's an extra night of merry at the Magic Kingdom with 20 nights of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party; and at Epcot, singer/actress Olivia Newton John makes her debut as a celebrity narrator for the beloved Candlelight Processional. Magic Kingdom

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party will have its longest-ever run with 20 magical nights from November 9-December 21. For a quarter century, Walt Disney World guests have been mesmerized by this must-see event, a grandly festive tradition immersing families in the holiday spirit. Dates for 2012: Nov. 9, 12, 15, 16, 25, 27, 29, 30 and Dec. 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21.

Beginning at 7 p.m. (after regular park hours), guests with special event tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party can enjoy all the holiday splendor with lively stage shows, spectacular fireworks, a unique holiday parade and favorite holiday traditions including complimentary cookies and hot cocoa, and snow flurries on Main Street, U.S.A. For more information, visit NOTE: this is a hard ticket special event after regular park hours; purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended.

Entertainment, Fireworks and More: Santa's elves have transformed the Magic Kingdom into a winter wonderland with festive wreaths, bows, garland, sparkling lights, parades and towering Christmas trees. The fun includes the Holiday Wishes nighttime spectacular: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season fireworks, plus live entertainment with Disney characters all dressed up for the holidays.

Castle Dream Lights on Cinderella Castle:
Cinderella Castle transforms into a glimmering ice palace for the holidays - thanks to a special effects spectacle bathing the castle in 200,000 shimmering white lights. Magic Kingdom guests are treated nightly to the dramatic castle celebration and stage show.


Candlelight Processional is a timeless holiday offering at Epcot that combines seasonal music with the poignant reading of the Christmas story by a celebrity narrator, accompanied by a mass choir performing seasonal melodies, and a 50-piece live orchestra. Actress/Singer Olivia Newton John makes her debut as one of a dozen narrators to take to the stage at this year's event, performed nightly November 23 - December 30, at 5, 6:45 and 8:15 p.m. Crowd favorites Neil Patrick Harris, Isabella Rosellini and Gary Sinise all return to America Gardens Theater stage on select nights. Holidays Around the World: Storytellers from around the world share traditions and lore from their homeland throughout World Showcase. The merriment continues with meet and greets with Santa and Mrs. Claus, plus the nightly "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth," laser, light, fireworks display capped with a seasonal finale.

Disney's Hollywood Studios

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights: This massive seasonal display features millions of dancing lights, plus animated displays and 3-D effects perfectly synchronized to electrifying holiday tunes amidst snowfall. The rich tradition takes place on the Streets of America, dazzling guests from Nov. 9, 2012 to Jan. 4, 2013.

Disney's Animal Kingdom

Celebrate safari style as Disney's Animal Kingdom is wilder than ever this winter season. Mickey and his pals rejoice in traditional holiday music with a world beat twist during the daily "Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade."

Downtown Disney

Get all your Christmas shopping done at Downtown Disney during Festival of the Seasons. The shopping mecca is draped with yuletide cheer, plus live entertainment, holiday carolers, a lively street party, plus photo ops with Santa and Santa Goofy.
