frozen-fun-dcl-2017.jpg
From the deck, to the stage and beyond, "Frozen" experiences add to summertime fun

CELEBRATION, Fla. – In summer 2017, Disney Cruise Line guests can once again immerse themselves in the animated hit "Frozen" with exciting experiences inspired by the film, including an exclusive new theatrical production, a spectacular deck party, storybook adventures ashore, character meet and greets, and more.

A Day of Frozen Fun, Including An Unforgettable Deck Party

On select Disney Magic and Disney Wonder sailings to Europe and Alaska, Disney Cruise Line guests are transported to the land of “Frozen” when the ship is transformed into a winter wonderland and a day of frozen fun culminates with an extravagant celebration with friends from the Kingdom of Arendelle.

On one special morning, guests will awake to discover a magical freeze has overtaken the atrium lobby with sparkling icicles adorning the grand staircase, resembling the majestic mountain-top ice palace of Queen Elsa.

Icy adventures and fun for the entire family throughout the day include meet and greets and themed experiences:

Memorable moments with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf

"Anna’s Chocolate Chase" scavenger hunt for those who share Anna’s sense of adventure, with a special surprise for finishing the game

"Do You Want to Build a Snowman" activity where kids take on Elsa’s magical powers to make snow and ice

"Oaken’s Maypole Swirl and Twirl" for families to learn a traditional Scandinavian dance spinning and braiding giant ribbons

"Frozen" themed dining experience, including a menu inspired by traditional Nordic fare and special dishes inspired by the film

The evening fun kicks off with "Freezing the Night Away with Anna, Elsa and Friends," a family-friendly interactive deck party featuring the famous royal sisters of Arendelle and their fun-loving Nordic companions. By now, the freeze has spread to the upper decks of the ship, with giant snowflakes, icicles and snow-covered rocks.

The celebration begins with a high-energy line dance reminiscent of the movie’s ice cutting scene, featuring the arrival of Princess Anna and an ice-pick twirling Kristoff. The party continues with a flurry of sing-along moments featuring Olaf and Sven, leading up to Elsa’s snowy arrival.

The evening concludes with more family dancing on the pool deck, followed by fun just for adults in the nightclub featuring dance performances and frozen specialty drinks.

Adventures Ashore in Norway

Disney Cruise Line guests who travel aboard the Disney Magic to Norway, the land that inspired Arendelle from "Frozen," have the opportunity to join exciting Port Adventures that bring this fairytale setting to life. One signature adventure ashore in Ålesund, Norway, created exclusively for Disney Cruise Line, immerses guests in the splendor and charm of Norway, with the help of Anna and Elsa, in an enchanting storybook village.

Other shore excursions explore the breathtaking natural wonders, stunning architecture and rich Scandinavian culture depicted in the film. A special seven-night Norwegian fjords voyage begins June 4, 2017, calling on Stavanger, Ålesund, Geiranger, and Bergen, Norway. An 11-night voyage beginning June 28, 2017 calls on a variety of Norwegian ports, including Stavanger and Ålesund.

In Summer and Beyond

Adding to the excitement, year-long offerings continue this summer and beyond.

Aboard the Disney Wonder, "Frozen, A Musical Spectacular" immerses guests in the kingdom of Arendelle via a new musical production featuring an innovative combination of traditional theatrical techniques, modern technology and classic Disney whimsy. The show follows the captivating journey of royal sisters Anna and Elsa as they embark on an adventure to discover the meaning of sisterhood, inner strength and true love. This musical spectacular features stunning ensemble pieces and lavish production numbers sure to inspire Disney Cruise Line guests to truly "let it go."

Also aboard the Disney Wonder, young guests can go on "Frozen Adventures" in Disney’s Oceaneer Club. Using digital technology, Olaf leads summery games with a wintery twist and a rousing sing-a-long of “In Summer.” In another festive ceremony, young guests prepare for coronation day with a surprise in-person visit by the royal sisters themselves, Anna and Elsa.

Aboard the Disney Magic, Anna, Elsa and Olaf are part of the line up of beloved Disney characters who together teach a young girl the power of her dreams in the Disney Cruise Line original production, “Disney Dreams … An Enchanted Classic." Scenes featuring “Frozen" characters include renditions of three popular songs: "Let it Go,""For the First Time in Forever" and "In Summer." The show segment is a heartfelt, humorous and memorable tribute to the “Frozen” film, preserving its endearing and playful tones with an inspiring message. Special effects are magical, with a snowfall throughout the theatre and a breathtaking transformation of the young girl’s room into her own ice palace.

On all four Disney ships, Olaf is giving warm hugs alongside Anna and Elsa. Children and families have the opportunity to meet and take photographs with their favorite "Frozen" friends on their royal tour of the Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, Disney Wonder and Disney Magic.

Disney Cruise Line Premieres Brand-New "Tangled: The Musical’ St"ge Show

tangled8.jpg
Original music by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken headlines stage adaptation of Disney animated film

CELEBRATION, Fla. (Nov. 11, 2015) – Endearing characters and captivating music from the animated film "Tangled" are enchanting audiences once again. This time they're part of an original Disney Cruise Line stage spectacular aboard the Disney Magic—the first time the beloved Disney tale has been adapted for the stage.

“Tangled: The Musical” immerses audiences in Rapunzel’s fairytale world through lavish production numbers and spellbinding music. Three new songs created exclusively for the show by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken and Grammy Award-winning lyricist Glenn Slater bring the story to life onstage.

The show stays true to the storyline from the hit feature film—with a few special twists to create a live stage production—featuring favorite characters like Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, the villainous Mother Gothel and Maximus the guard horse.

tangled5.jpg

The story follows the thrilling adventure of Rapunzel as she escapes the confines of her tower and the clutches of Mother Gothel, who wishes to shield the secret of Rapunzel’s magical golden tresses and royal roots. Rapunzel strikes up an unlikely friendship with the suave, crown-stealing bandit Flynn Rider, and together they face ruffians, thugs and a budding romance on a hair-raising journey filled with classic Disney playfulness and whimsy that will delight audiences of all ages.

New Songs Debuting with Film Favorites

Acclaimed composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast”) and lyricist Glenn Slater, the prolific pair behind the original soundtrack for “Tangled,” teamed up again to adapt the score and story for the stage. Complementing the score from the film, three new songs weave a delightful combination of narrative, humor and theatrics into the performance.

In addition to new melodies, audiences enjoy live performances of favorite songs from the movie, including “When Will My Life Begin,” “Mother Knows Best,” “I’ve Got a Dream” and the Grammy Award-winning ballad, “I See the Light.”

Adapting “Tangled” from Screen to Stage

Elaborate costumes, groundbreaking puppetry and stunning set designs transform the 977-seat Walt Disney Theatre into a fanciful Bavarian kingdom, immersing audiences in Rapunzel’s world and making them feel a part of her story. Disney assembled an all-star creative team to develop this extravagant production, with director Gordon Greenberg and choreographer Connor Gallagher joining Menken, Slater and a bevy of top-notch theatrical talent.

Master puppet designer Michael Curry, whose extraordinary creations are featured in Disney’s Tony Award-winning musical “The Lion King” on Broadway, bred a brand-new pedigree of puppetry in Maximus, the rambunctious guard horse. The “mane” attraction of every scene he steals, Maximus’ exaggerated demeanor becomes even more hilarious through the talents of the whinnying puppet performer within.

tangled1.jpg

Dazzling costumes created by Tony Award-winning designer Paloma Young bring the flair and vibrancy of the animated world to life onstage. The townspeople’s bright hues and Rapunzel’s feminine florals are perfectly balanced by the bristly browns of the rugged thugs and royal regalia of the kingdom officials, creating a sensational fusion of colors, patterns and textures.

Remarkable set designs by scenic designer Bradley Kaye (Disney’s “Aladdin—A Musical Spectacular”) transport audiences to storybook locales that include Rapunzel’s tower home, the outlandish Snuggly Duckling tavern, a brightly adorned kingdom town and the resplendent lakeside setting of the iconic floating lanterns scene from the film.

tangled3.jpg

New Show Joining Line Up of Exclusive Stage Productions

“Tangled: The Musical” is the newest addition to the line-up of Disney Cruise Line-exclusive live entertainment performed every voyage aboard the Disney Magic. It joins “Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story” and “Disney Dreams… An Enchanted Classic,” which features a new segment from the blockbuster animated hit “Frozen.”

“Tangled: The Musical” premiered aboard the Disney Magic during the Nov. 11 four-night Bahamian sailing. The ship will continue to sail four-night Bahamas and five-night Western Caribbean cruises from Miami through the new year.

To elevate guests' experiences in Norway, Disney Cruise Line Port Adventures are designed to entertain and inspire both children and adults-in true Disney fashion-with an extra dash of pixie dust.

"Frozen" Festivities and Viking Ventures in Ålesund

For the first time in forever, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff from the animated hit "Frozen" join Disney Cruise Line guests in Ålesund, marking their very first appearance in the land that inspired their story. Only Disney guests are invited to a Norwegian summer celebration at the Sunnmøre Open Air Museum where the festivities culminate with the grand arrival of the beloved sisters and their ice-loving companion, Kristoff, who join in the lively revelry. After being personally greeted by their "Frozen" friends, and surrounded by the idyllic beauty of Norway, guests dance to local musicians and sample tasty Norwegian specialties, including svele, a traditional sweet pancake from the region.

Another Ålesund adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line includes a quest to a Viking village on the island of Giske, where guests head back in history to meet the village chieftain and experience the Viking world. Adventurers find themselves in the middle of daily Viking life and mingle with members of the Norse families, experiencing first-hand the traditions, authentic food and games that come with being a Viking. Guests also learn traditional Viking handiwork and put it to practice by crafting their own leather bags.

Iconic Fjord Horses in Olden

Guests travel from the quaint village of Olden on a Port Adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line, visiting a Norwegian Fjord Horse Center to experience one of the world's oldest breeds and one of the country's national symbols, the Norwegian Fjord Horse. The adventure includes an up-close look at the stallions, mares and foals in a tour of the stables. Guests also have an opportunity to interact with the horses and see these magnificent animals in action. This includes watching a dynamic riding performance and taking in the picturesque scenery during a carriage ride around the grounds.

A Taste of Norway in Kristiansand

For those with a culinary passion, a Port Adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line in centuries-old Kristiansand provides the perfect hands-on cooking experience. Guests don their aprons and create Nordic specialties first-hand, such as succulent wild game filets and krumkaker, a heavenly waffle cookie typically served around Christmastime. The experience culminates with guests enjoying their sumptuous meal paired with a glass of wine.

The Great Outdoors of Geiranger

From the port of Geiranger, crowning jewel of the Norwegian fjords, comes an experience just for Disney Cruise Line guests - a visit to the Gjaera Mountain Farm where the local family provides an up-close look at daily life. Children join Disney Cruise Line youth counselors to create one-of-a-kind stamped pillows in the farm's printing studio using handmade wooden stamps that have been passed down through the family's many generations. Meanwhile, adults explore the farm and its microbrewery, sampling fresh brews. After building up an appetite, everyone reunites for a taste of traditional Norwegian foods produced at the farm including juices, breads, creams and cured meats.

Another journey brings Disney Cruise Line guests to the Herdalsetra Mountain Farm, where on the way to a nearby scenic valley they will enjoy a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord and the Seven Sisters waterfall made famous in Norwegian folklore. Guests tour the enchanting farm brimming with 30 farmhouses and more than 450 sprightly goats scampering around the property. They also sample the farm's fresh cheeses including Norway's famous brown cheese - similar to sweet fudge.

Those looking for even more adventure will find it kayaking through the Geirangerfjord. Gliding over dazzling turquoise waters, guests will get an up-close look at stunning waterfalls roaring down into the fjord and the majestic mountains along the water's edge.

Folk Dancing and Discovery in Molde

Outside of Molde, the "town of roses," Disney Cruise Line guests arrive for an afternoon at one of the largest folk museums in Norway, the Romsdal Open Air Museum, which encompasses more than 50 buildings. Guests explore the century-old property, including lush gardens, farmhouses, smokehouses and a chapel, and experience a spirited performance of Norwegian folk dancing featuring local children in traditional regional outfits.

"The Land of Fire and Ice"-Reykjavik, Iceland

Only Disney Cruise Line families can get "fired up" during an exhilarating trip to the edge of a local lava field that gives adventurers an up-close look at volcanic craters and lava fields that make up the country of Iceland. Families take part in an art workshop on the edge of the hardened lava field, using real lava to create their very own framed lava art.

Classic "can't miss" Icelandic landmarks take center stage on the tour of The Golden Circle. On this visit to some of Iceland's most iconic attractions, guests will explore a national park, a glittering waterfall, popping hot springs and a high-tech geothermal energy exhibition. Over a barbecue lunch in the woods offered exclusively to Disney Cruise Line guests, troll wife Gryla and her helpers tell the legend of troll giant Bergthor of Bláfell, whose exceptionally large grave, headstone and ring from his walking stick can be found in a nearby churchyard.
