Sneak Preview of Zootopia coming to Disney Parks!

Starting January 21st, check out the preview of Zootopia at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure.

At Disney California Adventure park, the “Zootopia” preview will be presented at the Bug’s Life Theater with special in-theater effects. Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will get to see this advance look at clips from the film as part of the One Man’s Dream attraction on Mickey Avenue.

Imagine an entire world populated by animals, living together in habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown. This modern mammal metropolis is the setting of “Zootopia,” opening in theaters in 3D March 4.

Zootopia is a melting pot, where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, con-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.

Disney's The Jungle Book - New Poster

The Jungle Book in theatres in 3D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D April 15

“The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub raised in the jungle by a family of wolves, who embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery when he’s forced to abandon the only home he’s ever known.

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray).

Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong'o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela.

“The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15, 2016. La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil Introduces New Acts

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. – Jan. 11, 2016 – As part of the show’s ongoing evolution, La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil has introduced two new acts: B-Boy, commonly referred to as breakdancing, and Aerial Bamboo, a technique mastered by only a handful of performers worldwide. The acts join the recent additions of uproarious clowns and a breathtaking juggling rolla bolla act. With almost 30 percent of the show experiencing changes, La Nouba continues to bring unique performances that Cirque du Soleil audiences have come to expect.

For the first time in any Cirque du Soleil show, a B-Boy trio is featured in their own electrifying act. B-Boying is a physically demanding form of dance, in which performers execute acrobatic tricks and moves, including flips and spins, to music. The La Nouba artistic staff scoured the globe for its three inaugural B-Boys: Josh Ortiz (“Incredible Josh”), Jean Carlos Lloret (“Bebo”) and Dmytro Li (“Flying Buddha”). The three hail respectively from the Bronx, N.Y., the Boston area and Ukraine and are performing together for the first time. All three have been dancing since their youth and bring their own unique styles to the act.

Performing their act for the first time in the United States, Russian couple Alexander and Ekaterina Abramov bring the rare performance of Aerial Bamboo to the La Nouba stage. An art form originating in China, Aerial Bamboo involves a pole-shaped apparatus suspended from the ceiling, with attached loops used for a variety of tricks and stunts. Originally, the pole was made of bamboo, giving the craft its name, but is now made of stainless steel. The act requires extreme trust as for most of the performance, Ekaterina is held only by Alexander – his arms, his feet and even his teeth – as he himself hangs by his feet or arms high above the stage.

The married duo has performed the act together for 11 years. Considered among the best in the world, they have performed all over the globe, including Egypt, Korea, Spain, Italy, Thailand, Israel and Russia and together have more than 50 years of gymnastics and acrobatic performance experience.

To seamlessly integrate the new acts into La Nouba, the show brought back original choreographer Debra Brown, original composer Benoit Jutras and original lighting designer Luc Lafortune to apply their individual crafts and create original Cirque du Soleil acts unlike anything audiences have ever seen before.

Capa steakhouse to offer a “From Matsusaka With Love” special for Valentine’s Day weekend
Japanese beef, known as wagyu, is famed for its soft, buttery texture, high marbling ratio and superior taste. For steak lovers, it’s often attested that there is no better steak experience than wagyu. In February 2016, for the first time in history, Matsusaka beef, the ultimate within the Japanese beef industry, will be directly imported from the Matsusaka Region of Mie Prefecture, Japan and introduced at Capa restaurant at Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort.

Matsusaka beef from Mie Prefecture has been recognised and honoured with the highest rankings for decades in the Japanese beef market. Four Seasons Resort Orlando Executive Sous Chef Sam Faggetti travelled to Japan in March 2015 to learn about Matsusaka beef. Later this January, Stephen Wancha, Director of Food and Beverage for Four Seasons Resort Orlando, will travel to Japan as well.

“We strive to offer a variety of exceptional meats on the menu at Capa, and our wood burning grill gives our steaks an amazing flavour profile,” says Faggetti. “It has been a privilege to travel to Japan to learn more about the care and preparation of the Matsusaka beef, and we are honoured to offer this special tasting at Capa.”

For six evenings, February 10 to 15, 2016, the Matsusaka beef will be on the menu at Capa in a special tasting called “From Matsusaka with Love.” The tasting menu is offered for USD 250 per couple, with an optional wine pairing available for USD 75 per person.

The Matsusaka Beef Tasting for Two includes:

Trio of wood grilled special grade Matsusaka beef: 3-ounce strip loin, tenderloin and ribeye

Served with side dishes of patatas bravas, blistered pimientos, roasted asparagus and truffle aioli

Trio of steak sauces: rioja, peppercorn and verde

By definition, Matsusaka beef cattle can only be virgin female cows of the Japanese black wagyu variety that have spent the majority of their lifespan, up until the time of slaughter, in Matsusaka City and its surrounding area and are registered under the Matsusaka Beef Identification and Management System. Some cattle farmers provide beer to cows to stimulate their appetites and give them thorough massages to improve blood circulation and encourage even fat distribution. Many farms raise their cows in individual rooms so they can be finely managed and assure a comfortable, stress-free life for their cows. Matsusaka beef producers spare no effort to produce the highest quality, richest, most finely dispersed marbling possible while managing their cows on a day to day basis. The rich marbling results in an exquisite taste.

Reservations to experience the Matsusaka Beef Tasting for Two at Capa can be made by calling 407 313 6161.

Opening Date Set for Shanghai Disney Resort

Magical grand opening celebration will take place on June 16, 2016

BURBANK, Calif., January 12, 2016 -- The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group announced today that Shanghai Disney Resort will host a multi-day, grand opening celebration, culminating in a spectacular welcoming ceremony for the resort's first official guests on June 16, 2016. The world-class resort, located in the Pudong District of Shanghai, will be Disney's first destination resort in mainland China, featuring classic Disney storytelling and characters with all-new experiences tailored for the people of China.

"When it opens in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese," said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. "The resort reflects Disney's legendary storytelling along with China's rich culture, and showcases some of the most creative and innovative experiences we've ever created. We're looking forward to showing it to the world and sharing it with the people of China for generations to come."

In 2014, Disney and Shanghai Shendi Group, joint shareholders of the Resort, announced an accelerated expansion plan to capitalize on the tremendous growth in China's tourism sector -- adding additional attractions, entertainment and other offerings to increase capacity at the theme park. On opening day, Shanghai Disney Resort will include:

-- Shanghai Disneyland, a world-class theme park with six themed lands: Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove and Fantasyland, all centered around the Enchanted Storybook Castle, the largest and tallest castle at any Disney theme park. Guests will enjoy numerous thrilling attractions and live entertainment spectaculars -- many of them first-of-a-kind for a Disney park.

-- The Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel, imaginatively themed resort-hotels conveniently located near the theme park. The Shanghai Disneyland Hotel is an elegant Art Nouveau-inspired resort with a touch of Disney magic and imagination, while the Toy Story Hotel immerses guests in a world inspired by the toys from the Disney-Pixar series of Toy Story animated films.

-- Disneytown, an international shopping, dining and entertainment district, adjacent to the entrance of Shanghai Disneyland. Disneytown will include the Walt Disney Grand Theatre, home to the first-ever Mandarin production of the Broadway hit Disney's THE LION KING. Another must-see for guests will be the World of Disney Store, offering an impressive collection of Disney merchandise, including many products designed especially for Shanghai Disney Resort.

-- Wishing Star Park, a recreational area with beautiful gardens, a walking path and a glittering lake. With approximately 40 hectares, Wishing Star Park presents guests with awe-inspiring natural views and beautiful sunsets.

The resort represents the largest foreign investment project in Shanghai, and one of the largest foreign investments in the history of China. The opening of Shanghai Disney Resort will mark a key milestone in the development of tourism in Shanghai, changing the landscape of the industry and delighting guests for generations to come.

Shanghai Disney Resort broke ground in 2011 and has celebrated numerous construction milestones since then, including the topping off of the iconic Enchanted Storybook Castle in spring 2015. In October, the resort kicked off the first of several large-scale job fairs aimed at ultimately recruiting thousands of cast members from across China to provide Disney's legendary service to guests on opening day.

Star Wars Villain Kylo Ren Arrives at Walt Disney World and Disneyland

Guests may encounter the villain starting in February 2016

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 15, 2016) – Star Wars: The Force Awakens has quickly become the highest grossing film in American history, and soon guests at Disney Parks will be able to interact with one of the film’s most intriguing and chilling new characters, Kylo Ren.

Every day at Disney Parks, guests step into Star Wars experiences such as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple and Star Wars Launch Bay, where they come face to face with some of the greatest heroes and villains of the saga. Starting in February, a visit to Star Wars Launch Bay at either Disneyland Park in California or Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will transport guests to the Star Wars galaxy for an encounter with Kylo Ren on the bridge of his First Order Star Destroyer.

As seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren is a dark warrior with a mysterious past. Kylo Ren is strong with the Force and serves as a leader of the First Order, seeking to destroy the New Republic, the Resistance and the legacy of the Jedi.

Star Wars Launch Bay is designed to showcase a variety of Star Wars characters over time. In addition to Kylo Ren, guests may also come across a garrison of First Order Stormtroopers or the heroic Wookiee, Chewbacca, holed up in a secret Resistance base.

The Force has awakened at Disney Parks with the addition of new and reimagined Star Wars experiences, just in time for fans of the blockbuster new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to step into the Star Wars saga every day.

The new experiences further expand the Star Wars presence ahead of the new Star Wars-themed lands coming to the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

More Closings Announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

Several new closings were announced on January 15, 2016, for Disney's Hollywood Studios.

First, the Disney Parks Blog announced that Lights, Motors, Action would close on April 2.

A later report in the Orlando Sentinel announced even more closings that would occur on April 2:

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Play Set
Monsters Inc. Meet and Greet
Studios Catering Company

Finally, the removal of the Earffel Tower.

None of these closures come as a surprise to those following the changes at the Studios. After all, to build two new lands, Star Wars and Toy Story, a good amount of acreage needs to be cleared and made available. The one item that was sad for Studios fans is the removal of the Earffel Tower. Back in the early days of the Studios, the Tower was thought of as the icon of the park. During the holidays a Santa hat was even placed on the Tower. However, in recent years, and with closures of attractions like the Backlot Studio Tour, it has taken more of a back seat.

Several backstage areas are also slated for closure, again to make room for the new areas.

It's unknown at this time just what other areas will be closed. What is known, though, is that more announcements will be coming.

New Head of Walt Disney Imagineering Bob Weis

Bob Weis has been leading the efforts in Shangahi Disneyland. Prior to that he was the creative lead for the Disney California Adventure rehabilitation. Other credits for Weis include the Tower of Terror, Tokyo Disney Sea and the Disney/MGM Studios.

Lion Guard Roars into Disney's Animal Kingdom in February

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 25, 2016) – In February, young explorers will have the chance to participate in a quest to become honorary members of the Lion Guard in a new Disney’s Animal Kingdom adventure inspired by Disney Junior’s animated series “The Lion Guard,” premiering January 15, 2016 on Disney Channel.

“The Lion Guard” continues the epic storytelling of “The Lion King” and follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, and his diverse group of friends as they unite to protect the Pride Lands. The story of Kion and his friends, who make up the Pride Lands’ fiercest, bravest, fastest, strongest and keenest of sight, was introduced in “The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar” television movie which premiered on Disney Channel in November 2015 and became the #1 primetime cable TV telecast of 2015 among kids ages 2-5. The Education and Science experts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park serve as consultants, inspiring original stories based on their first-hand experiences, and advising on the characteristics, behaviors and habitats of various African animal species.

The new Lion Guard Adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom sends young explorers on a park-wide search for the five Lion Guard characters: Kion, the fierce leader of the Lion Guard; Bunga, a brave and fearless honey badger; Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a friendly and good-natured hippo; and Ono, an intellectual egret.

The expedition begins as guests pick up a Lion Guard Adventure Map available in select merchandise locations. Youngsters will search for character statues hidden in themed locations throughout the park that represent each animal. For instance, Kion, the son of Simba, can be found in the Africa section of the park, Ono, the egret can be found near the Tree of Life, and Beshte, the hippo is hidden in Harambe. At each stop, there’s a Lion Guard banner and a sign with the character’s attribute.

As guests journey through the park, they learn about animals and the Circle of Life along the way. Once all five character traits are discovered, the adventure culminates at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Here, cast members induct participants into the Lion Guard with a special pledge, fun activities, and a Lion Guard Button identifying them as honorary members. Plus, featured character from The Lion Guard, Rafiki, joins the newest inductees for a memorable photo opportunity.

Fans can enjoy even more Lion Guard experiences inside Conservation Station with Lion Guard music, videos and a special look at Disney Junior and Disneynature’s new short-form series “It’s UnBungalievable,” a nature show hosted by “The Lion Guard’s” animated Bunga the honey badger, and Ono the egret, featuring live-action wildlife footage.
