Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel Amps Up the Magic at Santa’s Favorite Resort with its Holiday Happenings Line-Up

Santa and Mrs. Claus vacationing, life-sized chocolate Santa display and, a dancing lights show help guests celebrate the holiday season

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Nov. 5, 2013 - The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel is celebrating the season with the ever popular Holiday Happenings at the Swan and Dolphin. This year's magical month-long celebration in December will once again feature Santa - clad in cool Florida resort wear - accompanied by Mrs. Claus, as they jet off to Florida to escape the cold and spend their vacation at Santa's favorite resort, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel.

Families can enjoy a unique holiday experience away from home at the Epcot Resort Area hotel, mingling with Santa, lighting the tree with Mrs. Claus and even getting tucked in by one of Santa's elves. Santa's favorite elf, Kandy Kane, will also return this holiday season.

Children and kids at heart can enjoy a magical holiday vacation experience with this year's line-up:

Santa and Mrs. Claus Meet 'n Greets - Santa, Mrs. Claus and their favorite elf, Kandy Kane, decked out in their vacation attire, will meet with guests in Santa's customized Tiki hut select nights. The hut features reindeer, palm trees and flamingos, making it a photo opportunity like no other.

Dancing Lights Show - Each evening, the causeway transforms into a holiday spectacle, where illuminating palm trees become the performers of a dazzling musical light show featuring favorite holiday tunes.

Life-Size Chocolate Santa Scene - Constructed entirely of chocolate, this life-sized sculpture of Santa weighs in at approximately 1,200 pounds! The sculpture, created by the hotel's executive pastry chef Laurent Branlard (the only two-time world pastry champion), will be on display in the lobby of the Swan. And to make it even more decadent, a chocolate fireplace, chocolate Christmas tree and chocolate toy train will also be featured in this taste bud-tempting display. As a new addition, this year's display will feature a 7-foot tall, 400-pound chocolate nutcracker!


Bedtime Elf Tuck-Ins - Even after Santa's elves have finished making presents, their work isn't really finished! On Dec. 24, parents can hire a full-costumed elf to deliver milk, cookies, a plush toy and storybook to the room; read a bedtime story and tuck the children into bed before Santa arrives. This premium service costs $55 for one child and $15 for each additional child. A service charge of 20 percent is added. Reservations are required and space is limited.

Holiday Entertainment - On select nights, guests can catch entertainment by carolers, choirs and musicians in the hotel lobbies, on the causeway and in other public areas throughout the hotel.

Magic Keys for Santa - Since there is no chimney for Santa to fly down, the magical key is the perfect solution. Children can hang a magic key outside their guest room on Christmas Eve to help Santa find his way.

Tree-Lighting Ceremony - On select nights, guests can join Mrs. Claus in the Dolphin lobby for the lighting of the hotel's 45-ft. tall Christmas tree, followed by hot beverages at Santa's Tiki Hut.

Baby Zebra Adds its Stripes to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Savanna


LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Nov. 1, 2013 - Sporting black and white stripes, there's a new addition to the savanna at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. In October, the team welcomed a rare, baby Hartmann's Mountain zebra.

The filly and her mother are bonding well and doing fine after the yearlong gestation. Disney's animal care team, including veterinarians carefully monitored the mother throughout her pregnancy.

Typically found in mountainous regions of southwestern Africa, the species is characterized by a striking pattern of narrow vertical stripes covering its head and body. The species is considered endangered, with only 50 Hartmann's mountain zebras in the United States and an estimated 7,000 throughout the world.

Disney's Animal Programs team is actively involved in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan for this critical species. The team is proud to have a successful birth of a rare species.

The Hartmann's mountain zebra is listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of threatened species, which determines the risk of extinction to animals. The zebra's endangerment continues due to experience of loss of habitat in their native Africa.

Just a few fun facts about zebras:

-- With three species of zebra, they can be distinguished by their stripes: plains zebras have wider stripes that wrap around their bellies. The Hartmann's Mountain zebras have thinner stripes that don't extend around the belly.

-- No two individual zebras look exactly alike.

-- Most scientists believe that the zebra's stripes may serve to break up the outline of the zebra's body in the herd and provide some camouflage when the zebra is standing in tall grass.

-- The Hartmann's Mountain zebra can weigh up to 800 pounds and grow up to eight and a half feet.

-- Mountain zebras eat mostly grass, bark, leaves and tree and shrub shoots. Though they prefer mountainous regions for their habitat, they are known to move to lower elevations to graze in cold weather and seek shelter in caves or wooded areas.

Marketplace Co Op Coming to Downtown Disney in 2014


The Disney Parks Blog announced yesterday that a new merchandise location is coming to Downtown Disney Marketplace in spring 2014.

The Marketplace Co Op will occupy the site that currently houses Team Mickey, next to TrenD. Team Mickey will close in early January 2014 to make way for the new Co Op.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, the marketplace will act as a collection of shops within a shop -- a sort of "incubator," serving to introduce new Disney specialty retail shops and products to the public.

The current building will be slightly redesigned, but will retain its original ceiling elements, including the skylight.

When it opens, The Marketplace Co Op will house:

-- Beautifully Disney - featuring make-up, fragrance and beauty accessories.

-- Cherry Tree Lane - accessories such as scarves, shoes, bags and jewelry.

-- D-Tech on Demand - personalized, customized electronic accessories.

-- The Trophy Room - vintage inspired, lifestyle sports apparel and collectibles.

-- Centerpiece - room furnishings, textiles and everyday ware with a touch of Disney.

-- Zoey and Pickles - the latest trends and glamour for young girls.

Disney Cruise Line Unveils Itineraries and Ports for 2015


With all four Disney Cruise Line ships sailing from Florida ports in the early part of 2015, Disney's private island Castaway Cay takes center stage. Every cruise departing from January to April includes a stop at Castaway Cay, a lush tropical island reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests.

New Onboard Booking Rules for Disney Cruises


Disney Cruise Line has changed the onboard booking policy for cruisers.

Guests who book a future cruise while onboard a Disney Cruise Line ship will receive the following benefits:

• 10% off prevailing rates (as quoted on disneycruise.com)
• Up to US $200 onboard credit per stateroom
• Reduced deposit on sailings 7-nights or longer

With this change, Guests who book onboard must complete travel within 18 months in order to maintain these benefits. Guests who are unable to sail within this time period will have any current onboard booking benefits removed from their reservation. Guests can modify their sailing dates within this 18-month timeframe as long as these modifications are done outside of any applicable cancellation period.

This change will also apply to Guests with an existing reservation made onboard; however, Guests with an existing reservation will have an additional six-month extension and will need to sail prior to Nov. 30, 2015 in order to keep their onboard booking benefits.

Raglan Road Irish Pub Chef Kevin Dundon Stars In PBS Cooking Show

Kevin Dundon's Modern Irish Food Airs on WUCF-TV in Central Florida and on Stations Across the Country

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - Award-winning Chef Kevin Dundon of Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downtown Disney goes fishing in Ireland for the trout he prepares in the new PBS television series Kevin Dundon's Modern Irish Food. The beloved Irish "chef of the people" also scours his garden for fresh herbs and veggies and shows viewers how to prepare the perfect holiday dinner with little fuss.

Based on his new cookbook of the same name, Kevin Dundon's Modern Irish Food series airs at 2 p.m. Saturdays on WUCF-TV in Central Florida. Show episodes will air through December 21 in the Orlando area, culminating with a "Christmas Made Easy" cooking segment. The series also airs on PBS stations across the country and has been picked up by Create TV, part of the PBS family, for a February 2014 run.

Kevin Dundon's Modern Irish Food puts a modern spin on the celebrated dishes of Irish culture. With his quick wit and love for locally sourced produce, Dundon takes viewers of the half-hour show on a historic tour of Irish cuisine, demonstrating traditional elements of Irish country house cooking and the gourmet modernization of recipes.

Dundon is known in Central Florida for his Irish dishes with contemporary flair at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World Resort. The celebrity chef also owns and runs Ireland's four-star Dunbrody Country House Hotel & Restaurant, Cookery School and Spa, where the show was filmed.

"I've always been inspired by great traditional recipes handed down by my mother and grandmother . . . . It's now my turn to put a modern twist on it," says Dundon, whose cookbook has been shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards Cookbook of the Year. "The food that I cook is very accessible. My philosophy for food is simple -- use the freshest ingredients, treat them with respect, and you get the best flavor and results," Dundon says.

The series' companion website, www.kevindundon.com, hosts full recipes featured in the episodes. Kevin Dundon's Modern Irish Food is a production of RTE and is a presentation of WLIW21 in association with WNET, distributed nationally by American Public Television. Episodes began airing Oct. 26 in the Orlando area (check local listings). Upcoming episodes include:

Nov. 16 - Fish, Hunt and Harvest: Kevin prepares smoked mackerel with a black currant Jus. Also: Skeaghanore duck breast with black cherries, pickled wild mushrooms, sautéed garlic potatoes and to finish, a spiced apple with Killowen yogurt.

Nov. 23 - Birds, Bass and Berries: Kevin creates a woodpigeon salad; whole roasted sea bass in a sea salt crust; crushed baby potatoes; and a sea vegetable salad. Finally, a fresh and tasty elderflower and gooseberry layered "fool" dessert.

Nov. 30 - Comfort Foods: Kevin's presents his take on Arthurstown fish chowder; slow roasted lemon-cured pork belly; pancetta and cheese mash; braised sweet & sour cabbage; and an indulgent Irish cream bread and butter pudding.

Dec. 7 - Simple Delights: Kevin prepares a caramelized Dunmore East scallop tart served with a simple rocket (arugula) salad; warm roasted garlic cottage pie; orzo pasta risotto and sourdough bread; and heather-infused buttermilk panna cotta with honey.

Dec. 14 - Savory to Sweet: Kevin serves up a warming courgette and almond soup followed by a rack of Wexford lamb with an Asian twist served with a potato rosti. Also featured: caramelized apple chutney; dandelion salad with bacon and poached eggs; and orange marmalade pudding.

Dec. 21 - Christmas Made Easy: Kevin shows his audience how to prepare the perfect Christmas dinner: smoked salmon gateau, twice-stuffed turkey, marmalade-glazed ham, pork rack with apple compote, cranberry and chestnut sprouts, and very cherry tiramisu.

Spice Road Table Coming to Morocco Pavilion at Epcot World Showcase


LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Spice Road Table is coming soon to Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort, offering a variety of Moroccan small plates and specialty drinks. Regional flavors from the Mediterranean are highlighted, along with a scenic view of the World Showcase lagoon in front of the Morocco pavilion.

Perfect for "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth" viewing or relaxing with a selection of Moroccan flavors and cocktails along World Showcase Lagoon, Spice Road Table is a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds, say the restaurant's designers. There's an array of small plates: zesty harissa chicken drumettes; a Mediterranean omelet with sausage, potatoes and caramelized onion; mussels with preserved lemons and tomato sauce baked in an earthenware tagine pot; Moroccan merguez sausage with a fresh tomato salad; garlicky jumbo shrimp in a spicy chile pepper sauce.

Inspired by the outdoor cafes along the Mediterranean, the whitewashed façade of Spice Road Table is accented in icy shades of blue from the famous "Blue City" of Chefchaouen in Morocco's Rif Mountains. A collection of shops in the colorful style of a Moroccan "souk," or marketplace, stretches along the front of the building - a henna tattoo artist will create temporary body art from traditional and modern designs.

With 120 outdoor terrace seats, the inside will seat 60 with cozy booths, Moroccan light fixtures, tilework, tapestries and art representing Morocco's indigenous Berber tribes. Spice Road Table is the third eatery in the Morocco pavilion, joining The Tangierine Café, which features a variety of Moroccan sandwiches and specialty pastries, and Restaurant Marrakesh, where savory dishes, Moroccan music and belly dancers showcase the authentic charm of the North African country.

Disney Fantasy Presents Royal Court Tea


CELEBRATION, Fla. - The Disney Fantasy is celebrating the "Royal" in everyone, and whisking children and parents off to a magical affair during the Royal Court Royal Tea.

This royal teatime provides families with classic Disney entertainment and exclusive meet and greet opportunities that evoke nostalgia in even the biggest "kids" who attend.

In the Royal Court, children are greeted by Lady Chamomile, the Royal Tea Hostess, and are crowned as young princesses or dubbed as royal knights before they are escorted to their seats where more surprises await them. Lady Chamomile hosts the stately celebration with Chef Brule, the Royal Pastry Chef, and the pair presents the young princes and princesses with some of their most delightful culinary specialties during the merriment.


Of course, no royal celebration would be complete without a visit from classic (and modern) Disney Princesses, dubbing this fantastical affair a truly unique and unforgettable family moment for all who attend. Each Princess will enter the Royal Court by invitation from Lady Chamomile and Chef Brule, with a little help from the royal guests. Escorted by a Royal Page, the Princesses will visit each table to meet guests and welcome them to the tea party.


Lady Chamomile and Chef Brule prove to be welcoming and entertaining hosts of the event, telling stories, singing renditions of classic Disney tunes and dancing-encouraging children to participate. Served with tea sandwiches, pastries, cupcakes and tea, this courtly reception showcases some of Lady Chamomile's and Chef Brule's most delicious confections.

Tea party guests soon discover that the Royal Court Royal Tea is full of surprises-young princesses receive a My Disney Girl doll dressed as their favorite princess, as well as a memory book, a jewelry box and more, including very special gifts from each of the Princesses! Daring young princes complete their knightly fashions with a stately shield, seafaring Duffy bear and more great surprises throughout the event. All royal guests also receive a memorable photograph and meet and greet opportunity with the Princesses, making this event a stand-out experience for both children and families.


Now offered during 7-night itineraries on-board the Disney Fantasy, the Royal Court Royal Tea can be enjoyed by all.
