GhiradelliIceCream.jpg

ANAHEIM, CALIF. - Dec. 1, 2011 - Disneyland Resort today announced that Ghirardelli will open a new location inside Disney California Adventure park in late spring 2012. The soda fountain and chocolate shop will add yet another layer of traditional San Francisco flair to the Pacific Wharf area of the park.

"The addition of a world-renowned brand like Ghirardelli highlights our focus on providing quality, immersive experiences that transport our guests to a different place - in this case to San Francisco," said Mary Niven, vice president of Disney California Adventure park. "With the culmination of our expansion only a few months away, it is an exciting time at Disney California Adventure and we look forward to partnering with Ghirardelli in bringing this delicious chocolate experience to our guests."

The new location will feature Ghirardelli's world-famous hot fudge sundaes and decadent chocolate products. Each guest will be able to enjoy a complimentary sample of the signature Ghirardelli Squares® chocolate. The Disney California Adventure store follows the 13-year success of a similar location at Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World.

"We are very excited to expand our successful relationship with Disney, particularly as we prepare to celebrate our 160th anniversary next year," stated Martin Thompson, Ghirardelli president and CEO. "Our rich heritage, which began in California, combined with our premium brand of high-quality chocolate is a perfect fit with the quality experience Disney offers their guests."

Ghirardelli joins Disney California Adventure as it completes an expansion that began in 2007. New attractions include the nighttime spectacular "World of Color" and a classic dark ride, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure. The project's culmination is the 12-acre Cars Land, which opens in summer 2012 along with the newly designed Buena Vista Street entrance to the park, the iconic Carthay Circle Theatre and the Red Car Trolley. The expansion builds upon the transformation of Disneyland Resort into the premier multi-day Southern California vacation destination.

Santa in tropical attire, elves tucking kids into bed and a life-size chocolate Santa sculpture all part of hotel's holiday celebration

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Holiday travelers may not know this, but prior to his big night, Santa Claus, along with Mrs. Claus, escapes from the cold, ice and snow to go on a sunny Florida vacation at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel. He and the Missus will be decked out in their tropical attire (no red suits with fur trim here!) sunning and lounging the day away. Everybody knows Santa is not at all camera shy, so he and Mrs. Claus will be meeting and taking photos with guests at his customized Tiki hut throughout his December stay. It's just part of the holiday magic at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel.http://tiny.cc/santaresort

From being tucked into bed by an elf (yes, an elf!), to ordering a Christmas tree delivery, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel knows how to create a holiday celebration guests will never forget.

This year's holiday happenings include:

Life-Size Chocolate Santa

Santa may be known as sweet, but even he won't be able to match the sweetness of his likeness that will be on display throughout December in the lobby of the Swan. The hotel's executive pastry chef Laurent Branlard has created a life-sized sculpture of Santa, constructed entirely of chocolate - approximately 1,200 lbs. of it! The sculpture also features a chocolate fireplace, chocolate Christmas tree and chocolate toy train. Branlard is the only two-time world pastry champion and is renowned for his chocolate and sugar sculptures.

Bedtime Elf Tuck-ins

While Santa is out delivering presents on Christmas Eve, his elves are tucking in children staying at the hotel. Guests who order this unforgettable experience will have a full-costumed elf deliver milk and cookies as well as a plush toy to the room before reading a bedtime story and tucking the children into bed before Santa arrives! Reservations are required and space is limited for this exclusive Christmas Eve service.

Holiday Tree Guest Room Delivery

Want to add some holiday cheer to your guest room? Guests can order a Christmas tree service and have it delivered right to their room.

Mrs. Claus' Bakeshop Delivery

Families looking to cap off a magical day in a memorable fashion can do so with a special holiday bedtime delivery from Mrs. Claus' bakeshop. During December, guests can receive their own batch of Mrs. Claus' cookies and milk delivered to their room, along with a collector storybook featuring the tale of Santa and Mrs. Claus' vacation at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel. Deliveries can be ordered for a fee and are available Thurs. - Sat. Dec. 1 - 23.

Magic Keys for Santa

Worried about Santa missing out on delivering presents to your guest room? The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel has a magical solution! On Christmas Eve, children can hang a magic key for Santa outside their guest room, which can be accompanied by a gift wish list to help Santa (ahem, and parents) leave wrapped gifts for the following morning.

Mrs. Claus's Holiday Hotline

After families check into their guest room, children (with mom or dad's permission) can dial Mrs. Claus's Hotline to hear a special holiday message from Mrs. Claus.

Tree-Lighting

Select nights throughout December, Mrs. Claus will conduct a festive tree-lighting ceremony in the Dolphin lobby, illuminating a magnificent 45-ft. tall tree. Following the ceremony, complimentary holiday beverages and snacks will be available next to Santa's Tiki hut.

Disney Fantasy Takes Family Entertainment to New Heights

aladdin.jpg

New Main Stage Musical "Wishes" Debuts

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2011) - Like never before, Disney Cruise Line takes cruise ship entertainment to new heights: Performers soar and surf over the stage in aerial maneuvers ". Pirates rappel from atop the ship's funnel during a swashbuckling adventure ". The evening sky lights up with a dazzling display of sound and color.

On the Disney Fantasy, entertainment is designed to charm and bedazzle the entire family. Guests delight to some of the most elaborate original musicals presented at sea, over-the-top deck parties and, bursting above it all, the largest fireworks spectacular aboard a cruise ship.

It's Show Time!

Every night is show time at Walt Disney Theatre, an elegant, 1,340-seat entertainment palace that is at once classic and ultra-modern. Spanning three decks with orchestra and balcony seating, the theater is resplendent with art deco styling recalling luxurious show places of a bygone era. At the same time, it is equipped with theatrical technology that makes it one of the most advanced venues on land or sea, bringing original productions and Disney stories to life in a whole new way.

The lineup of musicals presented at the Disney Fantasy Walt Disney Theatre includes "Wishes," "Disney's Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular," "Disney's Believe," "A Fantasy Come True" and "An Unforgettable Journey." Here's a look at what's in store:

"Wishes"

A new ship means new main stage entertainment at the Walt Disney Theatre, and "Wishes" is a spectacular production debuting on the Disney Fantasy. This signature show is a 45-minute musical journey about three best friends who discover the secret to being a grown-up is staying connected to their inner child.

The story begins as long-time best friends Kayla and Nicole along with Nicole's twin brother Brandon visit Disneyland to celebrate their high school graduation. Each is unsure of what the future holds for them, so they make a wish to go on the "Ride of Our Lives" - the show's original opening number.

Their wish evokes an enchanted world where a cavalcade of Disney characters - including Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Lilo, Stitch, Mulan, Hercules, Pinocchio, Timon and Pumbaa - materialize to guide the teens through their magical journey.

Wishes_Disney-Fantasy.jpg

Full-scale production numbers and special effects bring excitement to the stage as the cast of "Wishes" performs original songs and classic Disney tunes with a contemporary twist. Notable moments include:

-- In an over-the-top musical comedy production number, the song "I've Got a Dream" from "Tangled" sets the scene as the Snuggly Duckling Tavern comes alive, with Rapunzel, Flynn Rider and a tavern full of hilarious thugs.
-- In the "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" from "Lilo and Stitch" scene, the stage fills with giant windsurfing sails, kites and surf boards. The infectious music inspires Kayla as she rides a surfboard, flying atop a giant blue wave silk.
-- King Louie and the Monkeys perform a high-energy swing band version of "I Wanna Be Like You" from the Jungle Book.

In the final act, the trio celebrates their extraordinary journey at a graduation party as the pop tune "Breakthrough" from the Disney Channel original movie "Lemonade Mouth" keeps the revelry going.

"Disney's Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular"

New to Disney Cruise Line, "Disney's Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular" takes the stage on the Disney Fantasy. During this Broadway-style production, guests laugh along with the wise-cracking Genie and the characters from the classic animated Disney film "Aladdin."

In this fast-paced musical comedy, Aladdin is back as the "street rat" of Agrabah meeting a Genie who grants him three wishes, battling the evil Jafar, and falling in love with Princess Jasmine.

Classic scenes and songs from the movie are re-created on stage - and some of the action even spills out into the aisles, like Prince Ali's jubilant arrival in Agrabah on the back of a stallion. Magic lamps, wise-cracking genies, princesses and evil wizards are all part of this musical production.

And of course, an Aladdin production would not be complete without a magic carpet scene. In this spectacular, mechanical wizardry and state-of-the-art projections combine to send Jasmine and Aladdin soaring as they perform a heartfelt duet of "Whole New World."

Many of the songs from the movie are featured in the 45-minute musical production, including "Friend Like Me," which is performed as a lively, Las Vegas-style production number featuring special effects, illusions and more than a dozen dancing genies. Composer Alan Menken, who created the original soundtrack with songwriters Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, composed an original song for the stage production entitled "To Be Free."

"Disney's Believe"

"Disney's Believe" is a stage spectacular that combines a heartfelt story with a captivating musical score. The lavish production tells the story of a workaholic father who, through the power of Disney magic, reconnects with his daughter and learns a valuable lesson about what is important in life.

"Disney's Believe" takes guests to the garden of Dr. Cornelius Greenaway, a brilliant botanist obsessed with cultivating his precious plants. Dr. Greenaway is so preoccupied with his garden that he overlooks the birthday of his daughter, Sophia. Saddened, Sophia makes a special birthday wish and the impossible happens: Genie from Disney's "Aladdin" appears to make her wish come true.

Joined by a host of characters, Genie takes Dr. Greenaway on an enchanting journey into the world of Disney stories. Through spirited production numbers, Dr. Greenaway learns that magic is real and is embodied in his beloved daughter.

More than 20 of Disney's most beloved characters take the stage during "Disney's Believe," including Cinderella, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Belle ("Beauty and The Beast"), Rafiki ("The Lion King") and Princess Tiana ("The Princess and the Frog").

"A Fantasy Come True" Welcome Show

"A Fantasy Come True" is a 45-minute, high-energy, multimedia musical production that follows one family's journey as they discover the amazing experiences and enchanting surprises that await them aboard the Disney Fantasy. Ultimately, they learn the greatest experience the ship has to offer is the opportunity to make memories - together as a family - that will last a lifetime.

"An Unforgettable Journey" Farewell Show

"An Unforgettable Journey" is a good-bye hug in the form of a 45-minute musical production that allows guests to reflect and savor the experience they have had onboard the Disney Fantasy. This farewell show connects the guests' experiences to the man who started it all - Walt Disney - through audio and video clips that steep the memorable moments and distinctly Disney touches in Walt's words and wisdom.

Party on Deck

In addition to nightly stage productions, Disney Cruise Line brings the upper decks of the Disney Fantasy to life with incredible live entertainment.

The fun begins with "Sailing Away," a "welcome aboard" show starring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and the Disney gang. The show is a celebration of the fun aboard a Disney cruise, building to the exciting sounding of the ship's horn.

On a special night each cruise, the entire Disney Fantasy transforms into a pirate ship with a night of events brimming with buccaneer fun and a fireworks spectacular.

The evening kicks off on the Donald's Pool stage with "Mickey's Pirates IN the Caribbean," a family-friendly interactive show featuring the famous Disney characters. Guests become members of Mickey's Pirate Crew as they participate in a series of pirate-themed musical numbers.

Later in the evening, Jack Sparrow from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films makes a special appearance on deck in "Hunt Fer Jack," a thrilling live-action pirate showdown which culminates in "Buccaneer Blast" - a spectacular display of piratical pyrotechnics.

As the night rolls on, a high-tech, open-air dance party on the upper decks of the ship heats up. Guests unleash their inner pirate and dance their boots off during "Club Pirate," a family-friendly bash featuring electrifying music, stunning visuals and special effects.

Fireworks at Sea

The only cruise line to feature fireworks at sea, Disney Cruise Line ups the entertainment ante and lights up the sky with a fireworks extravaganza.

As part of the pirate night celebration, the skies above the Disney Fantasy explode with brilliant colors during "Buccaneer Blast." With more "bang" than ever before, the pyrotechnic spectacular is choreographed to a dramatic score featuring songs from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies.

Disney VoluntEARS Collect Nearly 30,000 Toys For Local Children

Toys-for-Tots-2011.jpg

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 8, 2011 - Walt Disney World VoluntEARS reported for duty this morning on a joint mission with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Mickey Mouse to contribute to the local Toys for Tots campaign.

During the past month, Walt Disney World Cast Members collected more toys than ever before - delivering nearly 30,000 new books, games and other children's gifts for the annual drive, which benefits children in Orange and Seminole County. Several U.S. Marines helped Mickey Mouse and Disney VoluntEARS unload the first delivery of toys to the Toys For Tots warehouse today.

Since 1947, Toys For Tots has been sending a message of hope to youngsters by ensuring they have at least one new gift to open during the holidays.

"We hope that by donating toys and giving our time to Toys For Tots, we can make the holidays a little merrier for the children in our community," said Nancy Gidusko, director of Community Relations.

In addition to donating toys, Disney VoluntEARS are spending more than 4,500 hours at the Toys For Tots warehouse sorting donations.

"With the amount of Central Florida families in need, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve is grateful for all the donations we collect so that each child receives at least one toy," said Cpl. Anthony Ruggiero. "Without Disney, we wouldn't be able to help as many families as we do each year."

Disney's involvement with Toys for Tots began more than 60 years ago when Walt Disney and his animators designed the original Toys for Tots logo, which the campaign still uses. Today, the Walt Disney World Resort focuses its charitable support on organizations and programs like Toys For Tots that make a positive impact on local children. The company makes its impact through the outreach efforts of Disney VoluntEARS, collaboration with local community leaders and millions of dollars in cash and in-kind support to organizations in our community.

The annual toy drive is one of many charitable activities underway at Walt Disney World Resort during the "Season of Sharing" that focuses on improving the lives of local children and their families during the holidays and beyond.

Behind the Scenes of the Muppets Adventure Game on the Disney Fantasy

The Muppets will make their debut on the Disney Fantasy as part of the latest interactive adventure game!

Muppets Adventure Game

The Muppets are coming to the Disney Fantasy! While playing "The Case of the Stolen Show," guests take an interactive adventure quest around the ship, uncovering clues via more than a dozen pieces of Enchanted Art and physical "evidence."

The adventure begins with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal and a cast of more than 20 Muppets preparing to stage a big performance. But there's a problem: Kermit's banjo is missing, Fozzie's squirting flower has vanished, Gonzo's crash helmet has gone astray, Animal's drum sticks have disappeared and the Swedish Chef can't find his cleaver! All of the props for the big show have been stolen by a cunning thief (or more likely, another Muppet).

Pepe the King Prawn offers to take on detective duties to help Kermit and the rest of the Muppets find their missing props. Kermit, worried about Pepe's lack of detective skills, turns to the guests for help.

Guided by a map and holding a unique game card in front of select pieces of Enchanted Art, guests unveil clues and find missing props. Elsewhere on the ship, guests may check a Muppets message board and find a Muppet-sized stateroom door to discover clues. Their mission is to identify the culprit and solve the crime before it's time to raise the curtain and light the lights on the Muppets' big show.

"The Case of the Stolen Show" is a self-paced adventure game designed for guests ages nine and older. It features several possible endings and multiple randomized events - so each time a guest plays, they have a different gaming experience.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler

New 10-mile event is reminiscent of Tower of Terror 13K race from 2009; Race debuts Sept. 29, 2012 and is sixth signature runDisney event and second nighttime race at Walt Disney World; Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend shifts to early Nov.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Dec. 21, 2011) - Reviving the scarily popular Twilight Zone Tower of Terror theme, runDisney unveiled its newest race today, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend, which debuts next year at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando.

The nighttime race, scheduled for Sept. 29, is the reincarnation of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K last held in 2009. The new event has a similar race course - through the set of "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show" and past Mickey's Sorcerer's Hat - but features runDisney's first-ever 10-mile distance that finishes, appropriately enough, near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Runners will receive a finisher medal inspired by the Tower of Terror and then celebrate their achievement at a villainous post-race party with their family and friends, where they will enjoy live music, characters - including your favorite Disney villains - and have exclusive access to attractions like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Star Tours and Toy Story Mania.

"The 10-mile distance has emerged in popularity as beginning runners, who are fast becoming super fans of the sport, consider it the next big challenge after a 5k or 10k," said veteran race director Jon Hughes, who will serve as race director for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror event. "Take into account the unique night race combined with Disney's Tower of Terror theme, and it's 'the must do' event for 2012!"

The new The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror race is the sixth signature runDisney event and the second nighttime race at Walt Disney World along with the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, which shifts to Nov. 9-10 next year during the final weekend of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. As with all runDisney events, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror race weekend will involve a variety of events, including a 5K and Kids' races, plus a Health and Fitness Expo, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney.

Race registration opens Feb. 14, 2012 at runDisney.com. For more information on runDisney events and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend, visit www.runDisney.com.

Disneyland Celebrates Three Kings Day, Jan. 6-8, 2012

ANAHEIM, Calif. - For the first time, Disneyland Resort will observe Three Kings Day as part of the celebration of holidays. Three Kings Day activities will be held Jan. 6-8, 2012, at Zocalo Park in Disneyland park. The festivities add to all the holiday fun, including beautiful décor throughout the park, nightly snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A., and the special "it's a small world" Holiday and Haunted Mansion Holiday attractions.

Disneyland will celebrate Three Kings Day, also known as Día de los Reyes Magos, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 6-8, 2012, with special décor, food and entertainment that showcases this Latin American holiday tradition.

Three Kings Day is celebrated in many Latin American countries as part of the Christmas story. It commemorates the day the three kings (the magi or "wise men") followed the star to Bethlehem and presented their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The Three Kings Day celebration at Disneyland will be centered around Zocalo Park (Spanish for "Town Square") in Frontierland. Walt Disney envisioned Frontierland as a showcase of America's Western and Mexican heritage and this celebration will continue that vision.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will appear in Fiesta costumes and other characters will join them: The Three Caballeros: Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito.

Entertainment highlights include folklorico dance along with musical performances by the Grammy-winning Mariachi Divas.

Bilingual activity hosts will join children in face-painting, coloring, crown decorating and other activities.

Special food carts will appear in Zocalo Park for the occasion, serving Three Kings Day treats. The seasonal menu at Rancho del Zocalo restaurant includes tamales and Mexican hot chocolate.
