April 29 + 30 - Look Closer: The Mary Blair Paint Stand
3:00 pm, Lower Lobby

Mary Blair (1911-1978) was one of Walt Disney's most brilliant conceptual designers, helping define the look of such classics as Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), and Peter Pan (1953). She also brought her distinctive, colorful style to children's books, advertisements, theatrical set designs, and theme park attractions, including "It's A Small World," and the deceptively naive style of her commercial artwork belied great visual sophistication in everything from color choices to composition. Mary's colorful Paint Stand is located in the Lower Lobby of our Museum!

Would you like to know more about one of the artifacts in the galleries? Our Look Closer series will give you that opportunity-staff will reveal little known facts, behind the scenes information, or just additional information during the 5 to 8-minute gallery talk.

Magician Mickey Mouse Now Greeting Guests at New Magic Kingdom Location

... and Guests Can Skip Standby Queue with Disney's FASTPASS

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Mickey Mouse now reigns at a new location in Magic Kingdom to meet and greet his friends at Walt Disney World Resort. Guests can now go backstage at Town Square Theater for photos and autographs with Mickey -- without waiting in a standby queue!

Mickey's new location in the park also heralds the first-ever use of Disney's FASTPASS Service for a character meet-and-greet experience. FASTPASS allows guests to reduce waiting by designating a window of time when they can return for a theme park experience.

The fun takes place at the Town Square Theater presented by Kodak, located just inside the Magic Kingdom entrance. Previously known as Town Square Exposition Hall, the venue has been re-imagined as a turn-of-the-Twentieth-Century theater where posters proclaim Mickey Mouse as the star of a magic show.

A glistening marquee with gold-leaf trim and sparkling lights beckons guests to enter a lobby that serves as a hub for character meet-and-greet queues, the Box Office Gifts merchandise shop and Tony's Town Square Restaurant. Lush curtains with gold rope tie-backs, polished-brass chandeliers and a huge tile floor mosaic of the Town Square Theater logo adorn the space.

Just beyond the lobby, guests pass through an ornate arch and enter a queue to meet Magician Mickey Mouse -- or a queue to meet the Disney princesses, for whom Town Square Theater will be a meet-and-greet location during New Fantasyland construction.

The meet-and-greet experience begins when magical posters featuring Mickey's various magic acts come to life, enhancing guests' journey through queues into the backstage corridors of the theater. Mickey greets guests in a rehearsal-room environment amid posters, steamer trunks and stage props. It's a classic backstage area with a wood floor and ceiling. One wall is brick, the others are papered in red and black -- Mickey colors.

During the Princesses' limited engagement at Town Square Theater, they will greet guests in an area fit for royalty -- replete with plush carpeting, lush velvety-blue drapes with gold tiebacks, and a large mural backdrop of a chateau amid green, tree-covered hills and fields.

Exiting the meet-and-greet areas, guests pass through Curtain Call Collectibles, a shop with design elements suggesting a backstage area used for theater shipping and receiving -- with large, barn-like doors through which props and set pieces could pass.

Guests wanting to meet Mickey or the Princesses can either obtain a Disney's FASTPASS ticket or get in standby queues. FASTPASS tickets, which are available near Town Square Theater, designate an hour window of time during which the guest can return to the theater and have their "magic moment" with Mickey or the Princesses without joining the standby queues.

Full Sail University, ESPN Wide World of Sports Ink Innovative Partnership

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Recognizing the expanding role of sports within the entertainment industry, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and Full Sail University have finalized a unique partnership that enables the school to promote Full Sail's sports curriculum to a global audience of sports enthusiasts, while offering youth athletes more possibilities to envision their sports dreams.

As part of this collaboration, Full Sail will be represented throughout ESPN Wide World of Sports including the complex's Welcome Center, digital signs and promotional video packages. In addition, guests who are interested in learning more will be able to arrange a tour of Full Sail's Winter Park campus from the sport complex.

"The sports industry is evolving incredibly rapidly, and it requires professionals who understand the dynamics of the new media landscape for all applications in business, both now and in the future," said Josh Mora, program director of Sports Marketing and Media for Full Sail. "One area in which we can attract prospective students who will serve the industry is by focusing our efforts on those who have an inherent enthusiasm for sports. In that way, we can fuel their passion by exposing them to possible careers within the sports realm that they might not even know exists."

This agreement follows the university's recent launch of its new Sports Marketing and Media Bachelor of Science Degree Program. The 32-month curriculum, offered both on-campus and online, is designed to help students develop a balanced skill set of technical expertise and content creation. Students will also learn core business and marketing concepts as they apply to sports media, business models, sports marketing and research, public relations, sports law and contracts, and licensing and intellectual property.

"Sports dreams now come in all shapes and sizes," said Faron Kelley, director of marketing and communication for Disney Sports Enterprises. "We hope that by exposing young athletes to Full Sail's innovative curriculum, they will be able to realize their aspirations whether they're on the ball field, in the classroom or behind a TV camera."

Full Sail has recently collaborated with ESPN in launching a sportsbroadcast research lab at the university, complementing the current ESPN Innovation Lab located at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World. That lab has been critical in the development of ESPN 3D, Ball Track, NBA Player Card and Ultimate Uplink.

The special premiere benefit event continues the longstanding relationship between Boys & Girls Clubs of America and The Walt Disney Company, which started more than 50 years ago when Walt Disney was made an honorary member of the organization's board of governors.

For more than 100 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.bgca.org) has changed and saved lives, enabling young people to achieve great futures. Today, some 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs serve some 4 million children and teens through Club membership and community outreach.

In addition to the funds raised by the premiere ticket sales, Pirate's Booty, leader and manufacturer of all-natural snacks, has collaborated with Walt Disney Pictures to create a limited edition "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"- themed package for its best-selling product, Pirate's Booty Aged White Cheddar, and will be donating 5 cents to Boys & Girls Clubs of America for each bag sold between April 1 and July 31, 2011, with the goal being a $100,000 contribution.

"Inside Disney Weddings" Exclusive Interview with David Tutera on Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings’ Couture Collection

Couture Collection Gives Brides on a Budget Access to Tutera's Expertise

Carson City, NV. (Apr. 7, 2011) - This week's episode of "Inside Disney Weddings" features an exclusive interview with celebrity wedding planner David Tutera on his Couture Collection of Disney's
Fairy Tale Weddings.

Tutera gives "Inside Disney Weddings" details on the origin and future of the collection, which comprises four distinct wedding "looks" that offer magazine-worthy decor and Tutera's personal touch at a fraction of the cost of a celebrity wedding.

"I knew that I had the expertise and the history of doing spectacular
weddings for people who have money," says Tutera. "Now the trick was to find a way to create and develop the ideas and concepts that could be executed for girls who don't have very deep pockets. It's about making every girl feel wonderful and not feeling that they can't have something beautiful if they can't afford it. My goal is to empower women to feel amazing no matter how they look, what they do, how much money they make. They should have a wonderful wedding, and Disney can definitely execute that for them on all levels."

Hosts Scott Sheppard and Carrie Hayward also share a comprehensive overview of the Couture Collection, complete with details on how much they cost, what they require, and what the packages do-and don't- include.

About The "Inside Disney Weddings" Program

"Inside Disney Weddings" is the only program dedicated to weddings and honeymoons at the Disney parks and on the Disney Cruise Line. Each week, Scott Sheppard and Carrie Hayward take a look at what's new and exciting in the world of Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings. Topics range from the latest news, planning information and money-saving tips to in-depth interviews and event coverage. The program also features special guests, including industry experts and real Disney brides and grooms, along with caller Q&A, giveaways and contests.

First Disney theme park to be built in mainland China

SHANGHAI (April 8, 2011) - The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group, its joint venture partner in China, have broken ground on the Shanghai Disney Resort following approval from the Chinese central government in Beijing. Both companies marked the start of construction on the first Disney resort in mainland China at a groundbreaking ceremony held earlier today.

"Today marks a significant milestone in the history of The Walt Disney Company," said Robert A. Iger, President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. "Our Shanghai resort will be a world-class family vacation destination that combines classic Disney characters and storytelling with the uniqueness and beauty of China. Working with our Chinese partners, the Shanghai Disney Resort will be both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese."

"We're incredibly excited to build a Disney resort in Shanghai, one of the world's most vibrant cities," said Thomas O. Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We are hard at work designing Shanghai Disneyland, which when complete will be a special place where guests of all ages will discover a world of imagination, creativity, adventure and thrills."

Today's groundbreaking ceremony paid homage to the culture and people of China. Traditional Chinese drum music, a female soloist singing in Mandarin, a 50-voice Shanghai children's choir and Mickey Mouse dressed in a traditional Chinese costume were on hand to mark this special occasion. Following the entertainment and remarks, Iger and Staggs were joined by Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng and Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng to officially break ground on the project.

The new Shanghai Disney Resort is slated to open in approximately five years.

The Shanghai Disney Resort will be home to Shanghai Disneyland, a Magic Kingdom-style park that will blend classic Disney storytelling and characters with all-new attractions and experiences tailored specifically for the people of China. The park will feature several themed lands complete with exciting, iconic Disney attractions and experiences. At the heart of the park will be an interactive Disney castle that is truly an attraction unto itself with entertainment, dining and performance experiences that will be unique to Shanghai Disneyland. The park will also contain other large-scale entertainment venues, indoor and out, that can be used for various purposes throughout the year.

A beautiful, 11 acre (46,130 square meter) green space at the center of the theme park will differentiate Shanghai Disneyland and reinforce the themes of sustainability and nature that will be integrated throughout the park. The space will also be a place where friends and family can enjoy local cultural celebrations and customs together.

On Opening Day, the Shanghai Disney Resort will be located on a 963 acre (3.9 square kilometer) site in Pudong, Shanghai, with additional room to expand in the future. At opening, the resort will include Shanghai Disneyland, two themed hotels, a large retail, dining and entertainment venue, recreational facilities, a lake and associated parking and transportation hubs.

There will be an initial investment in the project of approximately 24.5 billion yuan (US$3.7 billion) to build the theme park and an additional 4.5 billion yuan (US$0.7 billion) to build the other aspects of the resort, including the hotels and the retail, dining and entertainment area. The investment amounts will be split between Disney and the Shanghai Shendi Group with Disney holding 43% of the shares of the owner companies and the Shanghai Shendi Group holding the remaining 57%. Financing will be proportional to ownership. In addition, a joint venture management company will be formed with Disney having a 70% stake and Shanghai Shendi Group having a 30% stake. The management company will be responsible for creating, developing and operating the resort.

Women Runners To Be Celebrated Amid Fairy Wings and Pixie Dust at Disney’s New Tinker Bell Race

Jan. 2012 race weekend at Disneyland Resort is fifth runDisney event -and second showcasing women's health, fitness and active lifestyles

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 19, 2011) - Building on the near-instant success of its Princess Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World Resort, runDisney is staging a second women-specific race - the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend - in early 2012 at Disneyland Resort, giving women and girls nationwide another opportunity to celebrate health, fitness and active lifestyles. After weeks of anticipation fueled by a series of clues from Disney, the Tinker Bell event was officially revealed Tuesday at a news conference at Disneyland Resort attended by celebrities and Anaheim city officials.

The Tinker Bell Half Marathon, hosted by the City of Anaheim and Disneyland Resort, will take runners on a 13.1-mile trek through the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks and pass by several City of Anaheim landmarks. The course will be filled with music, entertainment, Disney characters, runners in colorful Tinker Bell costumes and, of course, pixie dust, and will finish at Disneyland. Runners will receive a new Tinker Bell "wings' medal.

"We're proud to be the home of the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend,' said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. "It is events like this that give a city heart and character. I'm happy to welcome the thousands of runners and their friends and families to Anaheim.'

As with the four current runDisney signature events, the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend, Jan. 27-29, 2012, will feature a variety of activities, including the Neverland Family Fun Run 5K. There will also be a health and fitness expo featuring the latest running merchandise, products, apparel and guest speakers - all tailored for women - creating a weekend of camaraderie and wellness, plus a pinch of Tinker Bell's trademark sassiness and sense of adventure.

" 'Women runners' and 'half marathons' are part of a growing and popular trend within the running world - and that's evident by the rapid success of our Princess Half Marathon at Walt Disney World,' said Kathleen Duran, Disney Sports Endurance Manager. "This new Tinker Bell event at Disneyland embraces that trend and provides thousands of women another unique opportunity to spread their fairy wings and showcase women's fitness, health and an active lifestyle in a relaxed, fun and family vacation environment.'

Megyn Price, star of the hit CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement, attended the announcement along with Disney California Adventure and Guest Services Vice President Mary Niven and Mayor Tom Tait. Price was the first person to sign up to run the inaugural race.

"The idea of bringing my family to Disney and running a half marathon with thousands of other women was really appealing for me," said Price. "Being active and healthy is important for women, so I think the whole weekend is going to be a fun and unique experience for me and my family."

With the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend, Disneyland Resort will be hosting two of runDisney's five signature events. Disneyland currently hosts the Disneyland Half Marathon during Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 2-4 in 2011). In all, more than 10,000 runners are expected to participate in the inaugural Tinker Bell event, making it one of the nation's largest endurance races geared toward women.

Registration for the first-ever Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend is open. Registration is currently $120 for the half marathon ($130 after June 12, 2011, and $140 after Sept. 11, 2011) and $50 for the 5K event. A portion of the registration fees will be donated to the Anaheim Community Foundation. Runners can register for the Tinker Bell event and any other runDisney race online at rundisney.com.

Gathering and ‘Tweet up’ of Princess Proportions on Tap on ‘Royal Wedding Day’ at Walt Disney World Resort

[UPDATE (4/20/2011): The response to the "Tweet Up" mentioned below was so astounding -- the 250 RSVPs for which the event was originally planned poured in during a period of about two hours -- that Fairy Tale Weddings event organizers convened, broadened the plan for the viewing party, and re-opened the invitation ... and then closed it again when a second wave of RSVPs poured in Tuesday, April 19, 2011. The number of guests expected for the event is now in excess of 500.]

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- In celebration of the long-awaited Royal Wedding, Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons will host its first-ever "Tweet Up" and a viewing party on April 29, 2011, from 4-8 a.m. at Disney's Wedding Pavilion at Walt Disney World Resort.

The first 250 people who responded to a "tweet up" invitation have already secured their seats in Disney's Wedding Pavilion.

"Everyone remembers where they watched the last royal wedding," said Korri McFann, marketing director, Disney's Fairytale Weddings & Honeymoons. "April 29 is another royal occasion and we are thrilled to offer such a special viewing to help create lasting memories for moms, daughters, families and friends."

Guests are invited to dress up in "princess or prince attire" -- or come in their pj's -- for the early-hour gathering to watch, via live television, the royal couple tie the knot. Deemed as the biggest royal wedding since Princess Diana and Prince Charles, the exchange of vows between Kate Middleton and Prince William will take place at Westminster Abbey with the Archbishop of Canterbury officiating.

In addition to the viewing, the occasion at Disney's Wedding Pavilion will include:

* An English-inspired breakfast will be served to honor the occasion.
* Cinderella's Coach, which was crafted by Bennington Carriages -- coach maker for the British Monarchy -- will be available as a backdrop for pictures.
* Newly-released Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Jewels and tiaras, as well as Disney Princess-inspired wedding gowns from Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo will be showcased.
* There'll be a few entertainment surprises in store.

‘Star Tours – The Adventures Continue’ Brings Star Wars™ Thrills in 3-D to Disney's Hollywood Studios Theme Park

star tours

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The power of the Force and the magic of Disney have combined to create "Star Tours - The Adventures Continue," a new 3-D attraction set to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park on May 20, 2011. The attraction also will open at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., on June 3, 2011.

Based on the Star Wars films, Star Tours will take Walt Disney World Resort guests to multiple Star Wars destinations where they will interact with characters from throughout the Saga. And it will all be in 3-D.

With eye-popping 3-D digital filming, a dramatic musical score and motion simulator-based technology, guests will be immersed in the Star Wars galaxy like never before on a theme park attraction. Walt Disney Imagineering worked with Lucasfilm, Ltd. and Industrial Light & Magic - the groundbreaking visual effects division of Lucasfilm - to bring the out-of-this-world attraction to life.

Star Tours, which had thrilled Disney Parks guests since the 1980s, was "powered down" at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2010 so Imagineers could begin work on the new attraction.

And in a new twist, guests may be able to enjoy the attraction multiple times without ever experiencing the same adventure. More than 50 story combinations are possible for guests to experience aboard Star Tours.

Just as the Star Wars films immerse movie-goers in storylines that keep them on the edge of their seats, Star Tours will feature multiple stories and scenarios that will hurtle park guests throughout the Star Wars galaxy. And all of the storyline's twists and turns will be random, affording guests the chance to ride the attraction multiple times.

Whether it's a battle with Darth Vader and his legion of stormtroopers or a plea from Princess Leia to help her save the Rebellion, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action - literally - in the 3-D, multi-sensory attraction.

Entering the attraction queue area, Star Tours guests walk into a bustling spaceport. The famed Star Wars droid duo, C-3PO and R2-D2, greet them as the Starspeeder 1000 is prepped for service. Anthony Daniels, the voice of C-3PO and the only actor to appear in every theatrical chapter of the Star Wars Saga, reprises his role as the golden protocol droid. Daniels worked with Walt Disney Imagineering to record new dialogue for the attraction. Guests also are introduced to AC-38, a hotshot droid pilot known simply as "Ace," and Aly San San (voiced by actress Allison Janney), the "spokesbot" for the spaceport.

After winding through the spaceport, guests board the Starspeeder 1000 spacecraft and prepare for Star Tours Flight #1401. Through a series of mishaps, however, C-3PO finds himself in the pilot's seat instead of Ace, and it's up to him and R2-D2 to navigate their passengers through the galaxy. However, the tyrannical Empire is out to stop the Starspeeder at all costs. C-3PO and R2-D2 take the controls and try to outwit and outrun the Imperial forces and a galactic bounty hunter hired to pursue the spaceship and its passengers.

Utilizing the 50+ random story combinations, the Starspeeder then embarks on a wild trip through the galaxy, visiting several planets made famous in the Star Wars films. Among the locations that might provide haven from the Empire's pursuit are the icy planet of Hoth, the lush jungles of Kashyyyk and the underwater Gungan world of Naboo. And along the way guests may encounter Star Wars characters that offer to help (or hinder) their journey, including Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Darth Vader and Boba Fett. "Skytroopers," a legion of stormtroopers created just for the Star Tours attraction story, might even join in the chase.

In fact, with multiple ways to experience each flight, guests will never know where the Force will take them.

At Walt Disney World Resort, Star Tours opens May 20, 2011, the same day the annual Star Wars Weekends event begins at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park. Star Tours and Star Wars Weekends event activities are included in regular admission to Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park.

Disney Parks Extends Special Offers for Military Families

originally posted on Disney Parks Blog

Disney Parks has a long-standing history of honoring military personnel and their families and is pleased to announce that the special theme park tickets and room offers for active military and spouses, retired military, National Guard and Reservists are now extended to September of 2012. This announcement coincides with The Walt Disney Company's participation in "Joining Forces," an initiative created by the Obama Administration designed to bring attention to the unique needs of America's military families.

Yesterday, First Lady Michele Obama and Dr. Jill Biden joined the hosts of "The View" to discuss their involvement with "Joining Forces." They encouraged all Americans to show their gratitude to service members and their families and discussed how companies like Disney and others from across the country are coming together to help military personnel. For more information, go to www.joiningforces.gov to learn how you can get involved.

Disney is proud to support the brave men and women who serve our country in a variety of ways. At both Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom Park in Florida, military personnel and veterans from all branches of the military are honored daily at a special Flag Retreat Ceremony where they are asked to step forward to be recognized as the colors are retired each afternoon. Disney Cruise Line also supports military families with special offers available on select Disney Cruise Line itineraries.

In addition to Disney Parks, other areas of The Walt Disney Company are working with "Joining Forces" to support this great new initiative. Disney plans to donate 25,000 Disney/Hyperion books to the USO for the United Through Reading military program, which gives deployed troops the opportunity to read their kids a virtual bedtime story when they can't be there in person. Disney will send more than 200 "Operation Disney" care packages filled with DVDs, books, and games to USO centers worldwide which will also include 4,000 Disney Digital Book online memberships.

Additional information on the Walt Disney World ticket and room offers will be available at www.disneyworld.com/military and additional information on the Disneyland Resort ticket and room offers will be available at www.disneyland.com/military.

It’s "Time to Add the Magic!" at New Disney Hawaii Resort

Island Construction Workers Join Disney Aulani Team Members
To Celebrate Construction Milestone

KO OLINA, Hawai'i, April 21, 2011 - Today, in a ceremony on the lagoon fronting the site of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai'i, local crew members from Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc., joined with Disney cast members (employees) to celebrate the completion of major structural work on the Disney resort and the beginning of Disney's "time to add the magic."

The event was a symbolic representation of the shared efforts of Disney and Hawaiian Dredging in building the new resort, which will welcome its first guests on Aug. 29, 2011. The construction crew and Aulani Disney team met on the beach to exchange gifts - lei from the construction workers to the Disney cast, and Mickey Mouse ears from the Disney cast to the construction workers. As part of the milestone moment, Hawaiian Dredging "handed over the keys" to the people who will add final detailing, theming, landscaping and all the other magical touches guests expect to find at a Disney resort.

Djuan Rivers, vice president of Disney Vacation Club and Resort, Hawai'i, joined with Eric Hashizume, vice president of Hawaiian Dredging and Elliot Mills, managing director of Aulani, to bring the construction workers and Disney team members together to begin "adding the magic" to Aulani. They gathered on the sand to form the image of the trademark Aulani arch and then transformed it into the familiar silhouette of Mickey Mouse. Mickey, Minnie and their Disney character pals joined in the celebration.

As Walt Disney Imagineers continue adding the magic to Aulani, they are weaving Hawaiian stories into the buildings, interiors, art and gardens of the resort with the help of local architects, artisans and historians. The celebrated Disney magic, storytelling and service will create wonderful family vacation memories at the resort, drawing on the beauty, fun, enchantment and traditions of the islands.

Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa
Built on 21 acres adjacent to a crystal blue lagoon and a white-sand beach in Ko Olina, Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, will feature 359 hotel rooms and 481 two-bedroom equivalent Disney Vacation Club villas upon its completion. Rooms are housed in two 15-story towers with commanding views of the ocean, mountains and magnificent grounds. On-site are two restaurants, an 18,000-square-foot spa, a wedding lawn, a conference center and extensive water activities, including a central swimming pool, 900-foot tube floating watercourse, wading pool, body slides, sunset-facing hot tubs, a quiet adult pool, a snorkel lagoon, and a conservation pool. Aulani will also include a signature kids' club - Aunty's Beach House - where kids can explore Hawaiian culture through fun and games, arts and crafts, and many other experiences created just for them.

The resort will also offer excursions that invite families to discover the island of Oahu. Guests can enjoy one-of-a-kind adventures that blend the wonders and excitement of Hawaii with the Disney tradition of storytelling, choosing from a variety of experiences that include surfing, rainforest hiking and learning how to prepare Hawaiian cuisine.

Reservations for Aulani are now open. Guests may visit www.disneyaulani.com or call (866) 44-DISNEY.

New Storybook Rooms and Health and Wellness Suites Continue Growth Strategy at Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., April 26, 2011 - Over the course of the next year, new Walt Disney World Resort hotel rooms and suites will open that will allow guests to sleep like visiting Disney royalty or perhaps add a yoga session or two to their Disney vacation. It's part of an overall lodging strategy at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts that includes the addition of new niche rooms and suites to its guest offerings.

Beginning in fall 2011, guests will be able to experience new health and wellness suites on the 14th floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort. In the spring of 2012, new Royal Guest Rooms at Disney's Port Orleans Resort will take guests on a vacation getaway to Princess Tiana's guest house where her friends have also come to visit.

"All Walt Disney World Resort hotel rooms and suites are completely renovated on a regular cycle," said Mark Rucker, vice president of lodging for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "Our new Royal Guest Rooms at Disney's Port Orleans Resort and the new health and wellness suites at Disney's Contemporary Resort are examples of how we use our scheduled renovation time to look for new opportunities to 'plus up' the guest experience."

Rucker says health and wellness rooms and amenities are an emerging trend in travel, particularly amongst guests who stay in deluxe accommodations. The health and wellness suites on the 14th floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort will provide guests who fit that travel profile with the ultimate balanced Disney vacation by including all the magic and fun of Disney theme parks while making healthy and relaxing amenities easier than ever to enjoy.

Inside the new suites, guests will be able to enjoy the benefit of exercising at the own pace and time with cardio equipment right in their suite. They'll also be able to start and end their days with seasonal and organic fresh foods at the concierge lounge or enjoy a yoga session and spa treatment in the completely renovated wellness studio. Guests staying on the 14th floor can also take advantage of more traditional club level services, like advance itinerary planning.

The new suites are being renovated with new Bamboo flooring, 100% cotton linens on the non-allergenic wrapped mattresses, as well as rain water showers in the bathrooms. Of course, the 23 completely renovated suites on the 14th Floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort also provide sweeping top floor views of Magic Kingdom Park and Bay Lake. Continuing the popular "storybook" room concept launched in 2009 at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort with elaborately themed pirate rooms, 512 rooms at Disney's Port Orleans Resort are being renovated with a new "Royal Guest Room" theme centered on Disney princes and princesses.

The story behind the Royal Guest Rooms is Princess Tiana from "The Princess and the Frog" invited her royal friends for a vacation getaway. Friends like Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" and Jasmine from "Aladdin" brought along some of their most treasured possessions. Since "The Princess and the Frog" is set in Princess Tiana's hometown of New Orleans, Disney's Port Orleans Resort is a natural fit for the story.

A new royal bed design that includes headboards with special effects above ornately decorated beds and various icons associated with Disney princes and princesses throughout the room will further immerse guests in their favorite stories.

Generally, Walt Disney World Resort rooms are completely renovated on a 12-year cycle. The room's "soft goods" - including carpets, fabric, and paint - are replaced after six years; and the "hard goods" - including furniture, fixtures, and flooring - are replaced after 12 years, which is in line with industry standards.

All 3,056 rooms at Disney's Port Orleans Resort, including the 512 new Royal Guest Rooms, are undergoing a hard goods renovation that will be compete by June 2012.

Another niche guest lodging offering at Walt Disney World Resort will be available when 1,020 family suites and 864 value rooms open at the new Disney's Art of Animation Resort beginning in May 2012.
