Loggerhead Sea Turtles Migration Disney's Vero Beach


Hundreds of Disney's Vero Beach Resort guests cheer Aug. 1, 2008 in Vero Beach, Fla. as a loggerhead sea turtle named "Lumiere" makes her way to the Atlantic Ocean to launch the first annual "Tour de Turtles: A Sea Turtle Migration Marathon" hosted by the Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC).

Conservation biologists from Disney's Animal Programs and CCC released Lumiere, the last of eight sea turtles from Florida, West Indies, Panama and Costa Rica. With transmitters affixed to their shells, the sea turtles will be tracked by satellite technology during the next few months as they travel from their nesting sites to unknown feeding grounds. Lumiere and the rest of the sea turtles' progress can be tracked online at www.tourdeturtles.org.

Each of the turtles will represent a "cause" or threat to sea turtle survival. At Disney's Vero Beach Resort, the sea turtle named Lumiere will raise awareness of light pollution. Sea turtles rely on moonlight to find their way to the ocean and may be drawn off-course by artificial light sources.

Green Army Men characters at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.


A trio of Green Army Men characters from the Disney-Pixar animated films "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" march through "Pixar Place" at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The newest addition to Disney's Hollywood Studios, "Pixar Place" is modeled after Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, Calif. The street is adorned with larger-than-life versions of classic childhood toys and games, including Barrel of Monkeys, Scrabble and Battleship. "Pixar Place" is also home to "Toy Story Mania!," a cutting-edge ride-through attraction that combines the fun of a video game with 4-D technology and interaction with favorite Disney-Pixar stars.

'T-REX' Restaurant is going to Disney World

A two-story tall dinosaur is pictured August 13, 2008 being transported on a flatbed truck past a pedestrian crossing sign at the Downtown Disney entertainment district at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The dinosaur will be featured inside a new restaurant, currently under construction, called "T-Rex: a Prehistoric Family Adventure." Developed by Schussler Creative, Inc. and operated by Landry's Restaurants, the 600-seat restaurant will feature dinosaurs, waterfalls, bubbling geysers and a fossil dig site. "T-Rex" will open in mid-October at Downtown Disney.

Land lubbers and scallywags alike will be able to live like Captain Jack Sparrow in a pirate-themed room specially created for Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. More than 350 rooms at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort are getting an "Extreme Makeover: Pirate Edition" with new décor and furnishing fit for a buccaneer. Guests can start booking rooms for stays in January 2009, with the entire renovation scheduled to be completed by the end of spring 2009.

New Interactive Attraction at Epcot with Disney’s Kim Possible

New Ultra-Interactive Attraction at Epcot Immerses Walt Disney World Guests In the High-Tech World of Disney's Kim Possible


Epcot guests at Walt Disney World Resort will be treated to a brand new, highly interactive attraction inspired by Disney Channel's Emmy Award-winning animated series, Disney's Kim Possible. The new experience is slated to premiere in late 2008.

Using the latest technology, Disney's Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure invites guests of all ages to become secret agents, teaming up with members of Team Possible to save the world from various comical villains and their mad inventions.

As guests embark on this international adventure, they will receive an official "Kimmunicator," at kiosks throughout Epcot. The interactive, handheld device is designed to help them maneuver through the mission. Using state-of-the-art technology, the interactive device connects guests with a variety of Kim Possible characters who provide clues to stop villains from taking over the world. The highly interactive devices also allow guests to control top-secret equipment hidden inside the World Showcase pavilions, creating an ultra-interactive adventure jam-packed with mystery and excitement.

Guests can play Disney's Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure in seven of the World Showcase pavilions: Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Japan, France and United Kingdom. Each pavilion features a unique mission including distinctive visual events and a different super villain from the animated series.

Best of Both Worlds: Hannah Montana's Miley Cyrus to Celebrate 'Sweet 16' Birthday and Honor Youth Volunteers at Disneyland Bash

ANAHEIM, Calif. (August 21, 2008) - When the world's most popular teenager turns "Sweet 16," it's cause to celebrate. And when that teen is Miley Cyrus - star of Disney's "Hannah Montana" - there's no better place to celebrate than at a Disney Park.

To honor the occasion and Miley's philanthropic passion, Disneyland Resort in California has created "Miley's Sweet 16 - Share The Celebration," an unforgettable event for Miley and her fans that also will serve to recognize Youth Service America and help drive awareness of the need for youth volunteerism.

The Hollywood-style bash is planned for Sunday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 11 p.m., with ticket sales limited to 5,000 fans.

For Miley, the birthday bash is a once-in-a-lifetime event and she plans to make new Disney theme park memories during the evening. Disneyland Hotel ‘Character Quarters’ Keep the Magic Alive

ANAHEIM, Calif.-August 19, 2008- When it comes to magical vacation experiences at the Disneyland Hotel, it's character that counts. Disneyland Half Marathon Runners Travel a Magic Course Through Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. (August 22, 2008) - The Disneyland Resort is celebrating health, fitness and family fun with more than 18,000 participants who registered for the third annual Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, August 29-31. The highlight of the weekend is a 13.1 mile event affectionately dubbed "The Happiest Race on Earth."


Participants in the Disneyland Half Marathon will travel a course unlike any half marathon in the world. It passes through the two Disneyland Resort theme parks - Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure - and it's full of Disney inspiration with flaming cannons at the start, live entertainers all along the route, and Disney characters as cheerleaders. Many of the participants will be dressed like their favorite Disney characters, including Minnie Mouse and Tinker Bell, and some even stop mid-race to pose with Mickey Mouse and his pals for photos commemorating both the race and Disney Parks' ongoing Year of a Million Dreams celebration.

In three and one-half hours or less, runners will pass Disneyland icons such as Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Matterhorn, and they will also pass Anaheim landmarks such as the Honda Center, Angel Stadium of Anaheim and the Anaheim Convention Center before finally crossing the finish line in the Downtown Disney District.

The Disneyland Half Marathon has become a popular road race for its flat loop course and mild climate, ideal for personal best times. Hosted by the Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim, it reached registration capacity in July. More than 13,500 runners are scheduled to participate in the Half Marathon on August 31, and 5,000 participants will be competing in the Family Fun Run 5K and Kids' Races on August 30, with participants from all 50 U.S. states and 16 countries.

"We are excited to welcome guests from all around the country to the third annual Disneyland Half Marathon," said Ed Grier, president of the Disneyland Resort. "By joining together with the City of Anaheim and other partners, we are able to provide participants with a unique race around the Anaheim Resort Area that will benefit the Anaheim Community Foundation." A monetary donation will be made to the Anaheim Community Foundation, the 2008 beneficiary of the Disneyland Half Marathon.

The Disneyland Half Marathon weekend is full of activities for the whole family, beginning on Friday, August 29, with the opening of the Disneyland Health and Fitness Expo. The two-day celebration of health and fitness features celebrity runner appearances and seminars on training, racing and nutrition, along with opportunities to experience the latest in running and fitness equipment. Expo hours are noon to 8 p.m. on Aug. 29, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 30.

This year's Family Fun Run 5K celebrates the debut of Toy Story Mania!, an immersive attraction that opened in June at Disney's California Adventure. Runners in the 5K will encounter their favorite characters from the Toy Story films, from Green Army Men marching off the start to Woody and Buzz at the finish line. Little runners (8 and under) will join in the fun with sprints, a 400-yard-dash and a Diaper Dash for crawlers.

Disneyland Half Marathon race finishers will earn a special commemorative medal depicting Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, one in a series of Disney race-specific medals.

A new award, the Disney Coast to Coast medal, will be presented to an estimated 1,000 runners who complete the 2008 Disneyland Half Marathon and who also completed either the Walt Disney World Marathon or Walt Disney World Half Marathon in January, 2008. Awarded for the first time this summer, the Coast to Coast medal showcases the iconic "Partners Statue," of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.

The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend builds off the successful 15-year history of Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, which is operated by Disney's Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla. and is traditionally held in January. The Disneyland Half Marathon is part of the Disney's Endurance Series, which gives recreational athletes of all ages and abilities the chance to walk, jog, run, bike and swim their way "around the world." From running marathons to road races and triathlons, participating athletes from around the (Disney) world compete to stay in shape, to achieve personal-best times and often to raise donations for charitable causes.

It’s a “Suite Life” on the Disney Wonder with Disney Channel World-Premiere Event

CELEBRATION, Fla. (Aug. 26, 2008) - Disney Cruise Line will host a red-carpet, world-premiere event for the new Disney Channel original series "The Suite Life on Deck," a spin-off of the Emmy-nominated "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," on the Disney Wonder cruise ship Aug. 28-31.

During this special premiere at sea, guests sailing will experience a Hollywood-style, red-carpet arrival of some of Disney Channel's hottest stars, an exclusive sneak-peek of the first episode of "The Suite Life on Deck" and an opportunity to participate in a Question & Answer session with stars of the show. Cast members from "The Suite Life on Deck" scheduled to appear include Cole Sprouse (Cody Martin), Dylan Sprouse (Zack Martin), Brenda Song (London Tipton), Phill Lewis (Mr. Moseby) and Debby Ryan (Bailey Pickett). All events will take place on decks 9 and 10 of the Disney Wonder on Friday, Aug. 29, at the family-friendly Goofy Pool.

"I am so happy to celebrate here and see some of the fans who supported me," said Phelps. "It's great to feel so much excitement around the sport of swimming in the U.S. and around the world. To top it all off with a parade at Disney World is just incredible."

During his celebration in the Magic Kingdom, Phelps also took time to meet a group of local swimmers from the central Florida area. The aspiring young swimmers had the chance to talk with Phelps, ask about his record-breaking experiences and see the Gold Medals he won in Beijing.

Phelps' celebration at Walt Disney World is planned to be the next feature on his wildly popular Facebook.com page. Phelps, one of the most popular public figures on the social networking site, has nearly 1.5 million Facebook "fans" who have subscribed to receive his latest news and updates. Phelps said he plans to offer photographs and video of his Walt Disney World visit on his Facebook.com site.

Phelps, who has announced he will train for the 2012 Games, now owns the record for most Gold Medals in a single event (8) and for a career (14).
