Recently I had the opportunity to take a hard hat tour (no photos were allowed) of Disney Vacation Club’s newest property, Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Copper Creek is part of the overall Wilderness Lodge property, which, once open, will house guest rooms at the Wilderness Lodge (south side) Boulder Ridge and the Copper Creek cabins.

Ken Potrock, SVP & GM Disney Vacation Club & Adventures by Disney, spoke with a group of local media recently about the new resort: “This will be the first DVC property to have 5 types of room accommodations with studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom villas as well as the new cabins. Our guests have told us they don’t want any old hotel, they want themed hotels. They want a hotel that has a back story. They want to hear “is there a connection to Walt Disney?”

And the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will do just that — combining the history of decades of the railroad bringing people west.

I had the opportunity to talk with Imagineer Mitch Mioelli, project manager of Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. He shared additional elements of the theming.

Additional enhancements are part of the new Copper Creek Villas and Cabins including a new swimming area and the recently open Geyser Point Bar and Grill which boasts great views of Bay Lake.

The unique menu highlights an array of flavors from bison burgers with Tillamook cheddar and a house-smoked salmon BLT with lemon-caper mayonnaise to innovative small plates, craft beers and signature cocktails in the lounge.

During my visit to the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins, I also had the opportunity to speak with Chef Michael Gonsalves and Geyser Point’s Proprietor Stephanie about the unique food and beverage offerings.

The official opening of the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins is July 17, 2017. At that time, Roaring Fork and the Trout Pass Pool Bar will reopen as well.

  1. We also were there 2 weeks ago. We stayed in a 2 bed villa, now called Boulder Ridge. These units, along with regular hotel rooms will not be updated per a CM. Only the building that is con-verting from hotel to DVC will be updated, along with the new cabins. Those 2 will be called Copper Creek.

  2. Hi Deb,

We are going to be visiting the Wilderness Lodge just days before Copper Creek opens. We are staying in a studio at Boulder Ridge. Like others, we are still a bit confused on all of this, but I guess all we want to know is if the rooms in Boulder Ridge have been renovated, as well? Any more insight would be great. Keep up the fantastic work! Appreciate all you do!

DEB: Hi Josh. You are most welcome. The Boulder Ridge (original Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge) were renovated a few years ago. To my knowledge they are not being touched during this reno. You should check with DVC desk at the lodge when you arrive. Perhaps they have a room you can tour.

  3. Deb,
sigh, I’m confused between Copper Creek and Boulder Ridge. Can these both be rented on the Disney Site?

I think Copper Creek is separate, and the Boulder Ridge is connected to the Main hotel? Sorry if I sound confused! I am!!!

    THANKS DEB!!! LUV U!!!!

Deb: I share your confusion. Boulder Ridge is the original Villas of DIsney’s Wilderness Lodge. Copper Creek consists of two sections first the waterside Cabins. The whole side of Wilderness Lodge that faced the Villas. The regular rooms have all been turned into studio, one, two and three bedroom villas. Does that help?

  4. We just returned. Unless they are doing the reno in phases, only the wing of the Lodge closest to Boulder was undergoing reno, and when we asked about it, we were told all of them were becoming DVC.

  5. I don’t think that’s what Anna was asking. She wanted to know if the regular rooms that aren’t being converted to studio, 1, 2 or 3 bdrm villas are being renovated. And how many regular rooms remain? WL is our favorite Disney property but it might be more difficult to get a room there now that they took up half the hotel for these larger studios and villas. We just need a regular room. Thanks

DEB: I do not believe the regular rooms are having any renovations. As to numbers of rooms remaining, I was not able to get a clear answer and am trying to find out. Hopefully as the opening gets closer, more information will

  6. So are the regular rooms over there being updated, too? My sister insists thast they are, but I haven’t seen anything saying that. I heard stories of people getting put in the new rooms already but not being allowed to take pictures. We get there on the 2nd, so I am super curious.

Deb: YES, regular rooms are being converted. The whole side of the Lodge that faces Boulder Ridge (DVC properties) is being converted into studio, one, two and three bedroom villas. That conversion, combined with the cabins, comprise the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins
