Palm Golf Course Reopens

The Palm course re-opened for play on December 15, 2013, after an extensive renovation by the Arnold Palmer Design Company. The following description is quoted from the Walt Disney World golf web site:

“Please Note: This summer Disney’s Palm Golf Course was completely redesigned by Arnold Palmer Course Design. The extensive work included building entirely new green complexes, newly shaped tees, and a completely new bunker design that has modernized this historic golf course. The changes are significant and we’re very excited about the future of this great golf course.”

We recently played the newly re-opened Palm Golf Course at Walt Disney World. Our 7:15am tee time was on a chilly morning in January!! The fog was slowly lifting and the dew on the course seemed like we were playing on a light covering of snow.

As you play the course, you know you are in Walt Disney World. The front 9 is along the Magic Kingdom resort roadway and we smiled every time a Disney bus passed by or the Magic Kingdom Train whistle blew.

Fairways are in great shape and are actually very wide and accommodating for the average golfer. Beware, while they are wide, there are many water hazards to contend with!

The greens are now more challenging and require more thought before you putt!

Bunkers are more difficult than they appear, think pitching out of a very deep hole! The lip around the edge of the bunker is much deeper than before. The sand was VERY heavy!

The beverage cart made several trips by offering breakfast sandwiches, snacks, hot dogs and Bloody Marys!

Landscaping is very well done. Once the sun came out it was just beautiful.

Early morning is typically when the faster players are on the course, and that was our experience as well. We let the two-some behind us play through at one point on the front 9.

TIP: If you are not accustomed to playing in Florida, you don’t really want to go looking for your ball in the rough, woods, or near the water’s edge. There are snakes and alligators and very swampy areas!

Overall we had a great morning!

  1. Great report! My son and I have tee times booked for the Palm and Magnolia for our upcoming family trip and are quite excited to be golfing at WDW again. Since my son is of age, it looks like we’ll enjoy a “round” as well.

  2. That is good to know.I enjoy playing all the golf course’s at WDW. It is nice to see I am not the only golfer who likes to have a Bloody Mary while indulging in a “Round”,Pun intended.
