May 8th Ketchikan – which has even more rain than Juneau with over 300 days of rain each year. How amazing, back to back sun-filled days. Again, people in port kept thanking the Disney Wonder for bringing the suneshine!
Arriving into port:
On my way back from breakfast I spotted Pluto!.
On my 2 prior visits to Ketchikan I did the Mysty Fjords Float Plane and Boat Adventure and also tour the Alaskan Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary. Both outstanding.
For those wondering what the Duck Tour vehicles look like here you go. I did one of these in Seattle a few years ago and it was fun! Certainly a unique way to see the city from land and sea.
Our Cruise Director Christian was outside wishing everyone a great day!
Today’s excursion is Lighthouse, Totems and Eagles.
After a 20 minute or so drive in the bus, we arrived at the Air Marine Harbor where we boarded our vessel.
The Captain said we’d want binoculars so we practiced while still docked!
It was a beautiful day on the water.
First part of the ride we learned how to spot eagle nests and saw lots of eagles both on trees, in nests and flying around. While we were at the Loggerville (floating ghost town) there were several sea lions to entertain us.
After a good amount of time eagle watching, we were off to Totem Bight State Park.
I was hoping for a bit more time with the Totem Poles, but we just slowly cruised by.
But before we got on our way, a group of folks came out on their deck to wave hello!
And finally, on to the historic Guard Island Lighthouse. I’m used to east coast lighthouses, this one seemed small to me (height wise). The cool thing was that eagles were atop the lighthouse!
We had a bit more time to enjoy the day on the water before returning to dock.
Time to walk around Ketchikan and get the “tourist” photos
And before we knew it the sky began clouding up and we headed back to the Disney Wonder.
Tomorrow a sea day and our final full day on board.
